Újabb részletek láttak napvilágot a minneapolisi merénylőről, aki két kiskorúval végzett és legalább 14 másikat megsebesített szerdán.
Mint írtuk, szerdán halálos lövöldözés történt az Egyesült Államokban, Minneapolisban, egy egyházi iskolában. A hatóságok már korábban közölték, hogy a támadó a 23 éves Robin Westman (eredeti nevén: Robert) volt, aki a cselekmény elkövetése után végzett önmagával.
Azt már korábban is feltételezték egyesek, hogy a támadó transznemű lehetett. Mostanra pedig a The Telegraph-nak sikerült megszereznie olyan dokumentumokat, amelyek megerősítették ezt a feltételezést. A lap szerint a névváltoztatási kérelemben szülei azzal indokolták a kérést, hogy Westman „nőként azonosítja magát, és szeretné, ha a neve is ezt tükrözné”. A kérelmet Dakota állam 2020 januárjában hagyta jóvá.
Mindeközben a támadó a merénylet előkészítéseként egy sor, mára már törölt videót tett közzé, amelyekben bemutatta manifesztumát és fegyverarzenálját. Manifesztumában szerepelt többek közt egy transz büszkeség zászló is, amelyen egy AK-47 és a „védd az egyenlőséget” felirat volt látható.
Egy 20 perces videóban – amely azóta ismét elérhető az interneten, és amelynek egyes részleteiről ebben a cikkben is írtunk már – Westman megmutatja a jegyzetfüzetét, amelynek oldalai tele vannak olvashatatlan firkákkal, amelyeknek a nagy része cirill betűkkel vagy oroszul íródott.
Beszédes többek közt, hogy a támadáshoz beszerzett fegyverre is azt írta, hogy „a gyermekeknek” szánja a golyókat.

„Talán megtámadhatnék egy rendezvényt a helyi templomban. Azt hiszem, a legjobb terv az lenne, ha megtámadnék egy nagy csoport gyereket, akik szünetről jönnek be… Onnan pedig bemehetnék és gyilkolhatnék, ameddig csak tudok” – olvasható Westman zavaros írásai között a The Telegraph szerint. Máshol pedig úgy fogalmazott: „Aggódom, hogy találok-e elég nagy csoportot. Szeretném elkerülni a szülőket […] az iskola előtti és utáni szállításokat.”
Bár a támadó motivációi továbbra sem teljesen érthetőek, azt is lehet feltételezni, hogy mi miatt választhatta ki a merénylet helyszínét, az Annunciation Catholic Church nevű templomot a támadó: a felekezet Facebook-bejegyzése, valamint a helyi média beszámolói szerint édesanyja, Mary Grace Westman 2021-es nyugdíjba vonulásáig ott dolgozott.
Westman az írásaiban mélységes csodálatát fejezte ki a Sandy Hook-i tömeggyilkos Adam Lanza iránt, aki az amerikai történelem legsúlyosabb általános iskolai lövöldözésének elkövetője volt. „Egy ember iránt érzek különös vonzódást: Adam Lanza iránt. A Sandy Hook volt a kedvenc iskolai lövöldözésem, azt hiszem” – írta a naplójában még május 23-án.
A halálos áldozatok, a 8 és 10 éves gyerekek a templom padjain imádkoztak, amikor Westman golyói eltalálták őket. Rajtuk kívül tizenhét másik ember megsérült, köztük 14 gyerek. Két gyerek állapota kritikus, de az orvosok arra számítanak, hogy az összes sérült életben marad.

A kiérkező rendőrök a két lelőtt diákot az iskolában találták meg. A mentőegységek a Hennepin Healthcare kórházba szállították őket, ahol egyikük, a 15 éves Jamari Rice életét már nem tudták megmenteni. A másik diák állapota továbbra is kritikus.
A két gyanúsított elmenekült a helyszínről, azonban a rendőrség a lövöldözés után házkutatást hajtott végre két különböző helyszínen Minneapolisban, két embert pedig őrizetbe is vett. Egy fegyvert találtak, de egyelőre nem világos, hogy azt használták-e a lövöldözésben. A rendőrség szerint a két személy az ügy kizárólagos gyanúsítottja.
Tim Walz minnesotai kormányzó sajnálatát és együttérzését fejezte ki a történtekkel kapcsolatban:

Lövöldözés tört ki szombaton a kora hajnali órákban Minneapolis belvárosában, a rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint két ember meghalt, és nyolcan megsebesültek.
Az incidens helyi idő szerint hajnali három óra előtt történt. A KMSP helyi televízió idézte John Elder rendőrségi szóvivőt, aki szerint két férfi a tömegben összeszólalkozott egymással, fegyvert rántott, és lövöldözni kezdett.
A helyi rendőrség közölte a Twitteren, hogy a tíz meglőtt ember közül öt férfi és öt nő. Két férfi meghalt, és egy harmadikat válságos állapotban ápolnak a kórházban. A többi hét sebesült állapota nem életveszélyes. Az áldozatok mind felnőttek.
A lövöldözéssel összefüggésben egyelőre senkit sem vettek őrizetbe. A rendőrség szerint jelen pillanatban a minneapolisiak nincsenek veszélyben, de azért kérte őket, hogy ne tartózkodjanak azon a környéken, ahol a lövöldözés történt.

Egy nappal korábban Seattle belvárosában is lövöldözés tört ki. Két ember megsebesült. Egyikük, egy 19 éves fiú a kórházban belehalt sérüléseibe. A helyi hatóságok hiába próbálták megközelíteni az áldozatokat, a helyiek feltartóztatták őket.
A rendőrséget sem engedik be az elbarikádozott területre
Az eset ugyanis azon a környéken történt, amelyet két hete zártak le a helyi rendőrség ellen tüntetők, a hatósági túlkapások elleni tiltakozásként. Az elbarikádozott területről a rendőröket is kizárták, és még a lövöldözés után sem engedték be őket. A tüntetők azt követelték, hogy dobják el a fegyvereiket, a rendőrautókat pedig szorosan körbeállták.
A rendőrség állásfoglalásában erőszakos tömegnek nevezte a tiltakozókat, akik megakadályozták a rendvédelmi szervek tagjait, hogy biztonságosan hozzáférhessenek az áldozatokhoz.
