Nyolc tűzoltóautónak három órába telt, mire eloltották a tüzet a Goregaon West kerületben – mondta el a tűzoltótiszt. A mentési munkálatoknak vége, a sérülteket két kórházba szállították – tette hozzá.
Médiajelentések szerint a tűz néhány földszinti üzletben keletkezett, és a füst néhány emeletet elborított. A tűz okát egyelőre vizsgálják.
„Az épületet 2006-ban építették egy mumbai nyomornegyedből áttelepített emberek elhelyezésére, és nem rendelkezett megfelelő tűzoltó felszereléssel“ – idézte a Hindustan Times című lap a tűzoltó főtisztet.

Legalább harminc halálos áldozata van a heves esőzéseknek az indiai Mumbaiban – írja a BBC.
A cikk szerint a városban összedőlt egy épület, földcsuszamlások voltak, míg másokkal áramütés végzett.
A közlekedés több helyen összemolott, és a város több területe víz alá került.
A meterológiai szolgálat piros figyelmeztetést adott ki, mert a következő 24 órában újabb heves esőzésekre számítanak a térségben. A BBC cikkéban megjegyzi, hogy az év ezen időszakában a monszun miatt megszokottak heves esőzések, azonban ezek intenzitása az utóbbi években felerősödött.
