Szélsőséges jobboldali, köztük neonáci szervezetek törvénytelen támogatása miatt emelt vádat egy ismert polgárjogi szervezet ellen az amerikai szövetségi igazságügyi minisztérium – jelentette be Todd Blanche megbízott igazságügyi miniszter kedden.
A szövetségi főügyészi posztot is betöltő megbízott miniszter elsősorban pénzügyi bűncselekményekből álló vádiratot mutatott be az alabamai központú jogvédő szervezet, a Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) ellen.
A vádirat szerint a rasszizmus elleni aktivista tevékenységéről ismert szervezet 2014 és 2023 között mintegy 3 millió dollárt fizetett ki embereknek, akik olyan szélsőséges jobboldali csoportokkal működtek együtt, mint a Ku Klux Klán, az Amerika Egyesült Klánja, az Neonáci Nemzeti Szövetség és az amerikai nemzeti szocialista mozgalom.
A vádpontok között bűnszervezetben elkövetett több rendbeli pénzmosás, banki csalás és hamis nyilatkozat szerepel.
Todd Blanche azt hangoztatta, hogy az SPLC, amely polgári peres eljárásokat indít a fehér felsőbbrendűséget hirdetők ellen és a szélsőséges csoportok felszámolása érdekében, pontosan a küldetésével ellentétesen tevékenykedett.

Bryan Fair közölte, hogy egy – időközben megszüntetett – programról van szó, amelynek révén az erőszak által jelentett fenyegetettséget követték nyomon, és a megszerzett információkat esetenként a rendvédelmi és nyomozó hatóságokkal is megosztották.
A vádemelést egy később kiadott videónyilatkozatban politikai alapúnak nevezte, és azt állította, hogy a Trump-adminisztráció kiszemelte a jogvédő csoportot, amelyet hamis vádakkal illet.
A vádirat szerint a SPLC neonáci szövetségnek dolgozó informátora 2014 és 2023 között összesen 1 millió dollárt kapott.
Egy másik, aki részt vett a halálos áldozatot követelő, nagy társadalmi visszahangot kiváltott szélsőséges jobboldali felvonulás, a „Unite the Right” szervezésében, amit 2017-ben Charlottsville-ben tartottak, több mint negyedmillió dollárhoz jutott.
