A nicaraguai rendőrség csütörtökön őrizetbe vette a katolikus egyház két magas rangú képviselőjét – közölte a Confidencial című híportál.
A sajtóban Carlos Aviles és Hector Treminio néven megnevezett papokat egy neve elhallgatását kérő forrás szerint azért tartóztatták le, mert nyilvánosan imádkoztak a bebörtönzött Rolando Alvarez püspökért, aki Daniel Ortega elnök legjelentősebb bírálója.
A forrás közölte azt is, hogy a most őrizetbe vett két pap közeli kapcsolatban áll az ország legfőbb egyházi vezetőjével. Aviles a Leopoldo Brenes bíboros által vezetett managuai érsekség második legmagasabb rangú klerikusa, Treminio pedig a kincstárnoka.
A múlt héten a rendőrség letartóztatta Isidro Mora püspököt a siunai egyházmegyéből, így ő a második püspök, akit Alvarez 2022-es letartóztatása óta őrizetbe vettek.
A helyi sajtó szerint a csütörtökön letartóztatott egyházi személyekkel legalább hatra emelkedett a héten a közép-amerikai országban őrizetbe vett papok száma, a napokban azonban két fogságban tartott papot szabadon engedtek a hatóságok.

A nicaraguai katolikus egyház évek óta ki van téve a kormány erőszakos üldözésének. Noha az elmúlt hetekben elrendelt letartóztatásokat a kormány eddig nem indokolta, Ortega kitart azon álláspontja mellett, hogy a katolikus egyház 2018 áprilisában támogatta az általa puccskísérletnek tekintett kormányellenes tüntetéseket.
A helyi hatóságok a papság több tagját felszólították, hogy hagyják el az országot, 12 Nicaraguában fogva tartott papot pedig az Egyesült Államok és Nicaragua közötti megállapodás megkötését követően októberben szabadon engedtek és Rómába szállítottak.
Az Ortega rezsimjét bíráló Rolando Alvarez püspök azonban, akit februárban több mint 26 év börtönbüntetésre ítéltek, ismét a börtönt választotta a száműzetés helyett.
A közép-amerikai ország alelnöke gyűlöletkampánnyal vádolta és ördögöknek nevezte az egyház képviselőit a Kathpress osztrák katolikus hírügynökség jelentése szerint.
„Az egyház képviselői ördögök, akik a gyűlölet magvát hintik el a társadalomban… vannak emberek, akik ördögi szavakkal és érzelmekkel a hitről beszélnek, miközben ők maguk az igazi ördögök” – mondta az Ortega család által ellenőrzött állami médiában Rosario Murillo alelnök, a hatalmat birtokló Daniel Ortega elnök felesége.

A szerencsétlenséget szenvedett busz egy olyan lejtőn csúszott lefelé az északnyugat-nicaraguai San Sebastián de Yali település mellett, amelyen a helyiek méhkaptárakat állítottak fel méztermelésre egy kávéültetvény mellett.
Legalább tizennégy embert, köztük egy négyéves gyereket is kórházba kellett szállítani méhcsípések miatt.
Beszámolók szerint a hétfőn történt baleset halálos áldozatainak életkora 8 és 84 év között volt.
A helybéliek ugyan igyekeztek segítséget nyújtani a busz mintegy 45 utasának, de a felbolydult afrikaiméh-raj miatt nem tudtak a közelükbe férkőzni a mentőegységek kiérkezéséig.
A TN8 helyi televízió szerint egyes áldozatok testén több mint 300 méhcsípést találtak.

A nicaraguai kormány szókimondó bírálóját, Rolando Álvarez római katolikus püspököt 26 év börtönbüntetésre ítélték, és megfosztották nicaraguai állampolgárságától pénteken.
A még tavaly augusztusban letartóztatott püspököt egy nappal azután ítélték hosszú börtönbüntetésre, hogy nem volt hajlandó felszállni az Egyesült Államokba tartó, a Nicaraguából kitoloncoltakat szállító járatra, amelyen 222 politikai fogoly hagyta el az országot.
A püspökkel szembeni ítéletben olyan vádak szerepeltek, mint a kormány munkájának aláaknázása, hamis információk terjesztése, és engedetlenség. Rolando Álvarez állítólag azért nem szállt fel a repülőgépre, mert előzőleg konzultálni akart más püspökökkel.
Ellenzéki vezető politikusokat, köztük több korábbi elnökjelöltet, papokat, diákokat és aktivistákat szállító repülőgép pénteken szállt le egy Washingtonhoz közeli repülőtéren. Őket egy szerdán kiadott végzés alapján „Nicaragua függetlenségének és szuverenitásának aláásása” miatt toloncolták ki az országból és az „ország árulóinak” nyilvánították, továbbá megfosztották állampolgárságuktól. José Manuel Albares spanyol külügyminiszter pénteken spanyol állampolgárságot kínált fel a hontalanná vált 222 embernek.
Daniel Ortega azt állítja, hogy bebörtönzött ellenfelei és mások álltak a 2018-as utcai tiltakozások mögött, amely szerinte összeesküvés volt a megbuktatására. Tízezrek menekültek száműzetésbe azóta, hogy a nicaraguai biztonsági erők erőszakosan leverték a kormányellenes tüntetéseket.
Tavaly szeptember közepén az Európai Parlament állásfoglalást fogadott el, amiben a képviselők aggodalmukat fejezték ki Rolando Álvarez püspök letartóztatása miatt, és a püspök, valamint a politikai okokból fogva tartottak azonnali és feltétel nélküli szabadon bocsátására és az ellenük indított valamennyi jogi eljárás megsemmisítésére szólítottak fel.

Összeesküvés miatt tíz év börtönre ítélt egy nicaraguai bíróság négy római katolikus papot, miután a kormány hosszú ideje azt állítja, hogy az egyház illegális, demokráciapárti tiltakozásokat támogat.
Az ítéletről az ügyvédekből álló civilszervezet, a Jogvédő Egység számolt be. Az ügyet zárt tárgyaláson tárgyalta a bíróság, a papokat pedig a kormány által kijelölt ügyvédek védték. Az elítélt papok mind Rolando Álvarez matagalpai püspök munkatársai voltak, és egyikük a managuai II. János Pál Egyetem rektora volt. Álvarez háziőrizetben van, őt magát is összeesküvéssel és a „nicaraguai állam és társadalom elleni” bűncselekménnyel vádolják.
Az ügyben két szeminaristát és egy operatőrt is elítéltek. Az összes vádlottat egyúttal örökre eltiltották a közügyektől; soha többé semmilyen politikai tisztséget nem vállalhatnak.
A Nicaraguai Emberi Jogi Központ „jogi aberrációnak” nevezte az ítéletet.
„Ez az egész a jog, az emberi intelligencia, a nemzetközi közösség és az emberi jogvédő szervezetek arculcsapása” – tudatták a jogvédők.
Vasárnap egy ugyanilyen ügyben ugyancsak tízéves börtönbüntetést kapott egy másik pap is összeesküvés és álhírek terjesztése miatt.
Nicaraguában 2021-ben ellenzéki vezetők tucatjait, köztük hét elnökjelöltet tartóztattak le, akiket gyorsított eljárásban, szintén a nyilvánosság kizárásával ítéltek el. Daniel Ortega nicaraguai elnök szerint a demokráciapárti megmozdulásokat más országok és az egyház támogatta. Tavalyi, sorban a harmadik újraválasztása előtt azzal vádolta meg az ország püspökeit, hogy 2018-ban politikai javaslattal álltak elő „a jenkik szolgálatában álló terroristák” nevében, és magukat a püspököket is terroristának nevezte. Tavaly a Teréz anya által alapított Szeretet Misszionáriusai szerzetesrendet és a pápai nunciust is kiutasították Nicaraguából.

A nicaraguai katasztrófavédelem igazgatója, Guillermo Gonzalez egy sajtótájékoztatón azt mondta, csaknem 800 házat elöntött a víz az áradások miatt, továbbá számos háztetőt megrongáltak az erős széllökések. A Nicaraguai Hurrikánközpont (NHC) keddig meghosszabbította a vörös riasztást „életveszélyes árvizek és földcsuszamlások veszélyére” hivatkozva. Közleményük szerint a Julia hurrikán Nicaragua után Guatemala, Honduras és El Salvador partjai felé fordult.
A katasztrófavédelem közlése szerint senki nem sérült meg a hurrikán miatt.
A kolumbiai elnök Twitter-bejegyzésében a hurrikán pusztításáról osztott meg felvételeket. Gustavo Petro arról írt, San Andres és Providencia szigeteken is csupán „kisebb károkat” okozott: háztetőket szakított le és faágakat tört le, melyektől később a tűzoltóknak és a helyieknek kellett megtisztítaniuk az utcákat.
Hondurasban vörös riasztást adtak ki, és felszólították az embereket, hogy hagyják el otthonaikat, vonuljanak fedezékbe.
Guatemala elnöke, Alejandro Giammattei azt mondta, a hurrikán három áradást okozott az országban, valamint egy híd összeomlott. Az országban a május óta tartó esőzésekben eddig 49-en haltak meg és további hat embert eltűntként tartanak számon.

A püspökök és a papság elleni erőszak, amelyet a nicaraguai kormányhoz köthető fegyveres csoportok hajtanak végre, továbbra is sújtja a helyi katolikus egyházat.
A szókimondó püspököt azután vették házi őrizetbe, miután tiltakozott az ellen, hogy a kormány katolikus rádióállomásokat szüntetett meg az országban.
Bejárta a világot a fotó, amelyen Álvarez püspököt térdelve, kitárt karokkal látni, miközben fegyveres rendőrök csoportja veszi őt körül. Az incidens augusztus 4-én történt, amikor Álvarez püspököt – hat pap és hat világi hívő kíséretében – megakadályozták, hogy szentmisét mutasson be. Ekkor az 55 éves püspök letérdelt a járdán, hogy eucharisztikus áldást adjon, mondván: „Ünnepeljük az Oltáriszentséget az utcán, mert Jézus Krisztus Nicaragua ura.”
Rolando Álvarezt 12 társával együtt bezárták a plébániai otthonába. A szókimondó püspök felhívta a hatóságokat, hogy állítsák le a zaklatást, és kérte, hogy tartsák tiszteletben a vallásszabadságot.
A főpásztort a hatóságok azzal vádolják, hogy állítólag a médiát és a közösségi hálókat felhasználva a lakosság elleni erőszakos cselekedetek végrehajtására és az ország destabilizálására buzdít.
Az Európai Unió szerint ez a rendőrségi fellépés önkényes, és az emberi jogok és a vallásszabadság újabb megsértését jelenti a püspök elleni fellépés. A nicaraguai kormányt azzal vádolják, hogy próbálja elhallgattatni az Egyház képviselőit, körbezárja a templomokat, valamint zaklatja a papság tagjait és a hívőket – tudósít róla a Vatikáni Rádió.

Ortega másik hat potenciális ellenfelét május vége felé kezdték őrizetbe venni. Letartóztattak rajtuk kívül csaknem két tucat újságírót és ellenzéki aktivistát. Mindegyiküket árulással, vagyis „állampolgári hűtlenséggel” gyanúsítja Ortega rezsimje. A letartóztatottak többségét ismeretlen helyen tartják fogva, sem ügyvédeik, sem családtagjaik nem látogathatják meg őket.
Az elnökválasztás november 7-én lesz. Daniel Ortega immár 75 éves, negyedik elnöki megbízatását akarja elnyerni.

Az Ióta hurrikán által elpusztított hazájukba Észak-Hondurasban visszatértek a helyiek. Nicaragua sárban úszik, s azt mondják, amit esetleg meghagyott a hurrikán, azt elvitte az áradás.
Egy helyi asszony, Ofelia Bautista így emlékezett vissza a vihar érkezésére:
„Hirtelen csapott le a hurrikán. Szerencsére volt annyi időm, hogy a holmikat fel tudtam vinni az emeletre, azok nem áztak el. Egyáltalán nem számítottunk ilyen ítéletidőre.”
„Az Eta hurrikán után visszajöttünk, de utána megáradt a folyó, és újra el kellett mennünk”
November elején még az Eta hurrikán söpört végig Közép-Amerikán, egy héttel később ugyanott ért partot az Iota. Ezzel együtt összesen 30 szélvihar pusztított idén a térségben, ez minden eddiginél magasabb szám. A meteorológiai előrejelzések szerint az évben további viharok és áradások várhatók a térségben.
