Legalább 21 ember életét vesztette egy dzsihadista támadásban Nigéria északkeleti részén, az Adamawa államban fekvő Madagali piacán – közölték csütörtökön a helyi hatóságok.
A támadók motorkerékpárokon hajtottak be a piactérre, és válogatás nélkül tüzet nyitottak az ott tartózkodó emberekre – írja az MTI.
Egy neve elhallgatását kérő önkormányzati tisztségviselő elmondta, hogy minden motoron három ember ült, valószínűleg a Boko Haram nevű terrorszervezethez tartoztak. A támadók ezután kifosztották a piacot, élelmiszert, állatokat és motorkerékpárokat vittek magukkal – tette hozzá.
Egy szomszédos település, Hong lakói is beszámoltak egy őket ért terrortámadásról: ott a nigériai hadsereg három katonáját és egy nőt öltek meg a támadók, akik a helyiek szerint szintén a Boko Haram terroristái lehettek.
Hozzátették a nyilatkozók, hogy a települést több helyi lakos annak ellenére elhagyta félelmében, hogy a hadsereg már ellenőrzése alá vonta a területet.
Adamawa állam kormányzója, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri elítélte és „gyáva terrorcselekményeknek” nevezte a Madagali és Hong elleni támadást, és megtorlással fenyegette meg a terroristákat. A halálos áldozatok hivatalos számát azonban sem ő, sem a szóvivője nem közölte.
A Nigéria északkeleti részén 2009 óta aktív Boko Haram dzsihadista terrorszervezet és riválisa, a 2016-ban megalakult Nyugat-afrikai Iszlám Állam (ISWAP) a nigériai kormány és az ENSZ adatai szerint eddig mintegy 40 ezer embert ölt meg főként Nigériában, de Kamerunban, Csádban és Nigerben is; a harcok miatt pedig becslések szerint mintegy kétmillióan elmenekültek otthonukból a térségben.

A nigériai vészhelyzeti ügynökség (NEMA) tájékoztatása szerint az ország északnyugati részén, egy folyón történt hajóbalesetben több mint negyven ember tűnt el.
Az ügynökség szerint a hajó, amely több mint ötven utast szállított egy piacra, vasárnap reggel borult fel – adta hírül az MTI.
Tíz embert mentettek ki, míg több mint 40 utast továbbra is eltűntként tartunk nyilván – áll a NEMA közleményében.
Hozzátették, hogy a baleset Sokoto államban történt. A hajóbalesetek gyakoriak Nigéria rosszul szabályozott vízi útjain a túlterheltség és a rossz karbantartás miatt, különösen az éves esős évszakban, amikor a folyók és tavak megáradnak.
Legalább 16 mezőgazdasági munkás fulladt vízbe egy hasonló balesetben 2024 augusztusában ugyanebben az államban, amikor a folyón felborult egy bárka.

Nigériában gyakoriak az áradások, és ezek különösen a Niger és a Benue folyó partján fekvő közösségeket sújtják. A meteorológiai előrejelzések szerint a következő 48 órában további esők várhatók az ország középső és déli részeiben, ezért az országos katasztrófavédelmi hatóság már a hét elején arra kérte az államok illetékeseit, hogy tegyenek erőfeszítéseket a gátak és az egyéb árvízvédelmi struktúra megerősítése érdekében.

Egészségügyi források szerint sokan súlyos égési sérüléseket szenvedtek.
Az ügyben vizsgálat indult.
A Boko Haram és az Iszlám Állam Nyugat-afrikai Tartománya (ISWAP) terrorszervezet gyakran adják a fejüket útonállásra az államban, úton elhelyezett robbanószerkezetekkel állítják meg az áthaladó járműveket.
Egyelőre nem tudni, melyik dzsihadista csoport áll a szóban forgó robbantás mögött.

„A halottak száma jelenleg hetven” – közölte Kumar Tsukwam, Niger tagállam Szövetségi Közútbiztonsági Hivatalának (FRSC) igazgatója. Az igazgató hozzátette, hogy az áldozatok többsége a felismerhetetlenségig összeégett – írja az MTI.
A FRSC közlése szerint a 60 ezer liter benzint szállító tartálykocsi a szövetségi fővárost, Abuját Kaduna várossal összekötő úton, az úgynevezett Dikko csatlakozásnál balesetet szenvedett, és kifolyt az üzemanyag.
Az emberek odaszaladtak, hogy felszedjék a benzint, de a tartálykocsi kigyulladt, és a tűz egy másik tartálykocsira is átterjedt. A másfél éve tartó gazdasági válság sok nigériait elszegényített, a benzin ára felszökött. Sokan életüket is kockáztatják, hogy balesetet szenvedett járművekből kiszivattyúzzák a benzint, amelynek ára másfél év alatt ötszörösére nőtt.
