Nők ezrei tüntettek szerdán a nemzetközi nőnap alkalmából Pakisztán több városában annak ellenére, hogy a hatóságok igyekeztek a megmozdulásokat korlátok közé szorítani.
A 2018-ban indult, úgynevezett „Aurat (Nők)-felvonulásokat” sok vita övezi, a résztvevők ugyanis olyan, a pakisztáni társadalomban érzékeny témákat is feszegetnek, mint a szexuális zaklatás, a menstruáció és a válás. A legprovokatívabbnak tartott szlogenekkel vonuló nőket az évek során több fenyegetés is érte.
Rabáil Ahtar, a kelet-pakisztáni Lahorban tartott, mintegy kétezer fős tüntetés egyik résztvevője a sajtónak azt mondta, a megmozdulások lényege, hogy biztonságot követeljenek a nők számára a pakisztáni társadalomban
„Többé nem ülünk otthon csendben. Ez a mi napunk, a mi időnk” – fogalmazott.
A város hatóságai eredetileg betiltották a tüntetést az ellentüntetőkre és az ebből fakadó összecsapásokkal kapcsolatos aggályokra hivatkozva, valamint felszólították a résztvevőket, „őrizzék meg az iszlám értékeket”.
Mindeközben Iszlámábádban a demonstrálók nem fogadták el a hatóságok döntését, mely a megmozdulást egyetlen parkra korlátozta volna, ahol februárban egy nő csoportos nemi erőszak áldozatává vált.
A pakisztáni fővárosban rendezett demonstráción szemtanúk szerint többen az afgán nők támogatására buzdító táblákat tartottak fel.
A konzervatívok „a nyugati liberális értékek terjesztésével” vádolják a megmozdulás szervezőit, s azt vetik a szemükre, hogy „nem tartják tiszteletben a helyiek vallási és kulturális érzékenységét”.
A megmozdulások történetében incidensekre is sor került: 2020-ban iszlamisták egy csoportja kövekkel dobálta meg a tüntetőket Iszlámábádban.
