Eddig legalább 18 áldozatról és 30 sebesültről tudni Nigériában, akik öngyilkos női merénylők áldozatai lettek szombaton egy merényletsorozatban. Az afrikai ország északkeleti részén történtek a merényletek Borno államban, melynek körülményeit jelenleg is vizsgálják.
Borno egy 15 éve tartó iszlamista felkelés középpontjában áll, ami miatt már ezrek vesztették életüket, és milliók hagyták el otthonaikat. Noha a nigériai hadsereg jelentős mértékben csorbította a támadók fegyveres képességeit, még mindig képesek halálos támadásokat végrehajtani civilek és biztonsági célpontok ellen.
Barkindo Saidu, a Bornói Állami Sürgősségi Ügynökség főigazgatója számolt be arról, hogy a feltételezett öngyilkos merénylők egy esküvőn, egy temetésen és egy kórházban hajtották végre a támadásokat, ezzel sokakat megölve és megebesítve.
Eddig 18 halálesetet erősítettek meg, köztük gyerekekkel, felnőttekkel és várandós nőkkel. Többek hasi, koponya- és végtagsérüléseket szenvedtek, így lehetséges, hogy később tovább nő az áldozatok száma. A Reuters azt írja, egyelőre egyik terrorszervezet sem vállalta a felelősséget a kegyetlen támadásokért.
Egyelőre az is kérdéses, hogy a merénylők pontosan milyen szerkezetet használtak, és a számuk sem ismert. Nagy erőkkel nyomoznak a szakértők, és igyekeznek felkutatni a további lehetséges terroristákat, akik veszélyt jelentenek a társadalomra.
