Az Olaszország partjainál található Rospo Mare B olajplatform szerdán, január 22-én délután gyulladt ki. Erről a Il Sole 24 Ore számolt be.
A vállalat, amely az olajplatformot üzemelteti, tájékoztatott, hogy a tűz körülbelül 14:00 órakor, helyi idő szerint keletkezett.
A helyszínen rendkívüli helyzetet hirdettek, és megkezdődött a személyzet evakuálása – összesen 26 embert menekítettek ki. Az olasz parti őrség, amely az evakuálásért és a tűz következményeinek felszámolásáért felel, a műveletet „bonyolultnak” minősítette, de hangsúlyozta, hogy sérültek nincsenek.
A tűz következtében nem történt olajszivárgás a platformról, keletkezésének oka még nem ismert.
Az Energean közleménye szerint jelenleg is zajlanak a vizsgálatok, hogy felmérjék a kár mértékét és meghatározzák a tűz okát.
A Rospo Mare B olajplatform azonos nevű olajmezőn található, mindössze 20 kilométerre az olasz Abruzzo régió partjaitól. Fejlesztése az 1980-as években kezdődött.
