 A kanadai médium jelentése szerint a 27 éves, Calgaryból származó Kyle Porter és a 21 éves St. Catharines-i Cole Zelenco az Ukrán Nemzetközi Légióban szolgált. A kanadai önkéntesek ukrán katonák csoportjával együtt részt vettek a Bahmutba vezető kulcsfontosságú utánpótlási útvonal biztosítására irányuló harci hadműveletben, de április 26-án este az orosz hadsereg tüzérségi tüzébe kerültek.
 „Porter, Zelenco és még legalább három ukrán katona egy megerősített bunkerbe húzódott be, de az közvetlen találatot kapott. Mindannyian meghaltak” – jelentette a CBC News egy katonai parancsnokra hivatkozva. A tévécsatorna szerint Porter és Zelenco korábban a kanadai fegyveres erőkben szolgált, de leszereltek, és hamarosan a Nemzetközi Légióhoz csatlakoztak. A hírek szerint Zelenco holttestét már kiszállították a helyszínről Harkivba, Porterét pedig még keresik.

 A Luhanszk megyei rakétacsapás során életét vesztette két kárpátaljai önkéntes, Nazar Dicsuk és Dmitro Bicj, akik a lakosok kimenekítésében segédkeztek.
 A hírt Szerhij Hajdaj, a megyei katonai adminisztráció vezetője közölte. Elmondása szerint a településen erős harcok folynak, az iskola romjaihoz nem tudnak hozzáférni.
 A fiatalok néhány nappal ezelőtt érkeztek Bilohorivkába, hogy segítsék az evakuációt. A buszok végül szinte üresen mentek el, hiszen csak 49 lakos jelentkezett a 300 férőhelyre. A két önkéntes végül visszatért a településre, hogy segítsenek. Ekkor történt a tragédia.

 Az ügyészség közlése szerint három kirgizisztáni, öt Bosznia-Hercegovina-i és hét brazil állampolgár ellen indult büntetőeljárás, akik 2014 óta mostanáig folytatják részvételüket az Ukrajna elleni, Oroszország támogatásával folyó fegyveres konfliktusban a donbászi szakadárok oldalán. A külföldi zsoldosok a Kísértet elnevezésű területvédelmi zászlóaljban, a 11. sz. Kelet gépesített gyalogsági ezredben és a Védőbástya gépesített gyalogsági dandárban, valamint a Wagner-magánhadsereg kötelékében vettek részt a kelet-ukrajnai harcokban – állította a Legfőbb Ügyészség.
