Felrobbant egy orosz megfigyelő műhold szerda éjjel, a Nemzetközi Űrállomáson (ISS) tartózkodó űrhajósoknak fedezékbe kellett húzódniuk az incidens miatt – közölte az amerikai űrkutatási hivatal (NASA).
Arról nem közöltek részleteket, hogy mi okozta a 2022 óta keringő orosz műhold felrobbanását. A detonáció az űrállomás közelében történt, az amerikai asztronauták kénytelenek voltak nagyjából egy órára az űrhajójukba behúzódni.
Amerikai radarok észlelték, hogy a műholdból alacsony Föld körüli pályán törmelékfelhő áradt szerda éjszaka és csütörtök hajnalban. A tájékoztatás szerint a műhold több mint száz törmelékdarabra hullott szét.
Az amerikai katonai űrparancsnokság közölte, hogy az eset nem jelent veszélyt.

Az amerikai NASA TIMED és az orosz Cosmos 2221, rendkívül közel, kevesebb mint 10 méterre, haladt el egymás mellett.
Veszélyesen közel került egymáshoz februárban egy amerikai és egy orosz műhold, ami majdnem katasztrofális ütközést eredményezett. A NASA TIMED műholdja és a már működésképtelen orosz Cosmos 2221 műhold az első mérések szerint nagyjából 20 méteres távolságra suhant el egymás mellett, ami a NASA legújabb elemzései szerint valójában kevesebb mint 10 méter volt.
Pam Melroy, a NASA igazgatóhelyettese a Space.com-nak nyilatkozva elmondta, hogy az esemény mindenkit megdöbbentett a hivatalnál. Egy esetleges ütközés akár komoly következményekkel is járhatott volna, a keletkező törmelékek ugyanis más műholdakat is veszélyeztethettek volna, beleértve azokat is, amelyeken emberek tartózkodnak.
Mivel egyik műhold sem volt képes manőverezni, kevés lehetőség állt volna rendelkezésre az ütközés elkerülésére. Az Európai Űrügynökség (ESA) adatai szerint jelenleg körülbelül 11 500 műhold kering a Föld körül, ebből 9000 működőképes, többségük a SpaceX Starlink szélessávú hálózatának része.
Az űrszemét problémája is egyre súlyosabb, az ESA becslése szerint körülbelül 36 500 darab, legalább 10 centiméter széles űrszemét van Föld körüli pályán, és több mint 130 millió, legalább 1 milliméter átmérőjű szilánk.
Melroy hozzátette, hogy még az apró törmelékdarabok is komoly károkat okozhatnak a műholdakban és a Nemzetközi Űrállomásban, figyelembe véve a sebességeket, amelyekkel ezek az objektumok mozognak. Példaként említette, hogy az ISS pályáján körülbelül 28 160 km/h sebességgel mozognak a tárgyak.
Másodjára fordult elő robbanás az orosz Kosmos-2499 elnevezésű műholdon – számolt be róla a Gizmodo. Hogy pontosan mi történt, nem tudni, az viszont biztos, hogy ezzel még több űrszemét állt pályára a Föld körül.
Az amerikai űrhaderő jelentése szerint még január 3-án, helyi idő szerint 22:57-kor következett be az az esemény, ami tovább morzsolta a Kosmos-2499-et. A számítások szerint az esemény után 85 újabb törmelékdarab keletkezett, melyek 1170 kilométeres magasságban keringenek a bolygó körül, és így nagyjából 100 évbe telhet, hogy belépjenek a Föld légkörébe.
A beszámoló szerint a műhold felbocsátásának célja sosem volt tisztázott, vélhetően ezért nincsenek pontos információk nyilvánosságra hozva a pusztulásával kapcsolatban sem. A szerkezet 2021. október 22-én robbant először. Jonathan McDowell, a Harvard-Smithsonian Asztrofizikai Központ csillagásza szerint most valami hasonló történhetett.
Elképzelhető, hogy egy űrszemét találta el a műholdat, ahogy az is, hogy egy mikrometeorit volt.
Az orosz űrkutatás fejleményeiről beszámoló RussianSpaceWeb weboldal szerint a Kosmos-2499 2014-ben három másik műholddal együtt indult a világűrbe. A műhold hivatalosan nem szerepelt a rakéta rakományjegyzékében, így amikor megmagyarázhatatlan módon megjelent a három Rodnik típusú műhold mellett, az amerikai szakértők úgy gondolták, hogy űrszemét, így az Object 2014-028E jelölést kapta.
Kiderült azonban, hogy a szerkezet különböző manővereket hajt végre, ami alapján azt feltételezték, hogy egy negyedik műholdról lehet szó. Emiatt 2014 októberében átminősítették az objektumot űrszemétről műholdra.
McDowell szerint a műhold az orosz Nivelir-projekthez kapcsolódhat, amely „valószínűleg olyan műholdak építését jelenti, melyeket más műholdak vizsgálatára terveztek”. Az amerikaiak szerint egy olyan fegyverről lehet szó, ami képes blokkolni más műholdakat. Ezt az oroszok tagadták.
