Terrorizmusszakértők és a halott férfi családja kétségbe vonta a Pentagon nyilatkozatát, amely szerint a művelet egy magas rangú szíriai terrorista ellen irányult.

Michael Lawhorn, a Központi Parancsnokság szóvivője közleményében azt mondta, hogy a tisztviselők tudomással bírnak a civil áldozatról szóló jelentésekről, és továbbra is vizsgálják az eredményt.
