Az oroszok visznek a városból mindent, amit érnek, miközben az ukrán hadsereg egyre szorosabbra fűzi az ostromgyűrűt a város körül.
Gyors ütemben tűnnek el a dolgok Herszonból: az orosz hadsereg katonái mentőautókat, traktorokat, személygépkocsikat lovasítanak meg, de nem kímélik a múzeumok festményeit, szobrait sem. Még II. Katalin orosz cárnő szeretője, Grigorij Patyomkin sem nyugodhat békében, csontjait ugyanis kiásták a város Szent Katalin katedrálisának kriptájából. A zsákmányt a katonák a Dnyeperen áthajózva menekítik orosz földre, Herszon lakosságával együtt, akiknek deportálását – avagy a hivatalos orosz terminológia szerint evakuációját – pénteken jelentette be Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnök – írja a Guardian.
Ismeretlen, hogy a háború előtt 300 ezer főt számláló lakosság mekkora része tartózkodik jelenleg is a városban. Az orosz-szimpatizánsok már korábban elmentek, jelenleg pedig éppen egy humanitárius missziónak álcázott kitelepítés folyik Herszonban. Ennek azonban sokan ellenállnak, főleg azok, akik bíznak a város ukrán felszabadításában.
A város gyors kifosztását sokan annak tudják be, hogy az orosz hadsereg hamarosan feladja Herszont, amelyet március elején foglalt el. Erre utalhat az is, hogy lekerült az orosz zászló a regionális adminisztrációs központ épületéről. Ennek hadászati szempontból is lenne értelme, hiszen a várost gyakorlatilag körülzárta az ukrán hadsereg.
A legtöbben azonban nem ennyire optimisták: az egyik helyi szerint civilnek álcázott orosz katonák veszik be magukat az épületekbe, és a sokan arra számítanak, hogy véres utcai harcokban próbálják majd megtörni az ukránok lendületét. Legvégső esetben pedig porig bombázzák, ahogy tették azt Mariupollal. Erre számít az ukrán hadvezetés is, akik elmondták: a frissen a frontra vezényelt orosz újoncok az elővárosokban ássák be magukat. A zászló eltávolításával az ukránokat akarják becsalogatni a városba – vélik a tábornokok.
