Március óta terjed egy katasztrofális algavirágzás Dél-Ausztrália partjainál, amely mára kétszer akkora területet borít be, mint az ausztrál fővárosi körzet. A jelenség több mint 400 tengeri faj pusztulását okozta, a halászati ágazat teljesen megbénult, sok családnak nincs bevétele. A helyi kormány természeti katasztrófának nyilvánítaná az eseményt, de a szövetségi vezetés egyelőre visszautasítja a minősítést.
Dél-Ausztrália partvidékét soha nem látott méretű algavirágzás sújtja, amely mérgező zölddé változtatta a tengervizet, és eddig több mint 400 tengeri faj pusztulását okozta. A katasztrófa március óta terjed, és ma már kétszer akkora területet fed le, mint az ausztrál fővárosi terület – a Coorongtól egészen a Yorke-félszigetig. A jelenség természetesnek számít, ám kialakulásának fő okai az óceánok melegedése, a tengeri hőhullámok és a tápanyagszennyezés – mind közvetlen következményei a klímaváltozásnak.
Peter Malinauskas, Dél-Ausztrália miniszterelnöke szerint a helyzet már bőven túlmutat egy környezeti problémán: természeti katasztrófáról van szó. A politikus felszólította a szövetségi kormányt, hogy ismerje el hivatalosan is a katasztrófa státuszt, amely lehetővé tenné nagyobb volumenű kormányzati beavatkozást és támogatást. „A politikusoknak árt, ha technikai részletekbe kapaszkodnak, miközben a természet és az emberek szenvednek” – nyilatkozta az ABC-nek kedden. Malinauskas bejelentette, hogy kormánya megduplázza a szövetségi kormány által beígért 14 millió ausztrál dolláros (kb. 9 millió amerikai dollár) támogatást, amit kutatásra, takarításra és az iparági szereplők megsegítésére fordítanak – írja a BBC.
A szövetségi környezetvédelmi miniszter, Murray Watt szerint bár a helyzet „rendkívül aggasztó”, jogilag nem minősül természeti katasztrófának, így a nagyobb mértékű állami segítség jogalapját is hiányolja.
Ezzel szemben Sarah Hanson-Young, a Zöldek szenátora szerint ha ugyanez a katasztrófa Bondi Beachen vagy Sydney elit partvidékén történne, „a miniszterelnök már rég a helyszínen lenne, kamerák előtt, beavatkozva”.
Az algavirágzás következményei nem csak ökológiaiak: halászat gyakorlatilag leállt, sokan három hónapja jövedelem nélkül élnek. „Halászok sírnak nekem a telefonban, annyira kétségbe vannak esve” – mondta Ian Mitchell, aki a halászok és a kereskedők között közvetít. Brad Martin, az OzFish nevű természetvédelmi szervezet munkatársa szerint a part menti jelenetek olyanok, „mintha egy horrorfilm játszódna le a halak számára”. A helyi kormány lépései és a társadalmi nyomás hatására elképzelhető, hogy a szövetségi kormány is változtat álláspontján.

Uruguay partjainál az elmúlt hetekben mintegy kétezer elpusztult pingvint találtak – közölte az ország környezetvédelmi minisztériumának munkatársa.
Július 7. és 21. között 1680 elpusztult pingvint sodort partra a víz – mondta el szerdán Carmen Leizagoyen. Hozzátette: egyelőre nem tudják, hogy mi okozta a pingvinek tömeges pusztulását, de a madárinfluenzát kizárták.
A megvizsgált példányok fiatal állatok voltak, nagyon le voltak soványodva, és paraziták fertőzték meg őket.
La Palomában a helyi önkormányzat szóvivője a Telerocha televíziónak elmondta, hogy 800 pingvint kellett eltemetniük. Hozzátette: az évnek ebben a szakában mindig partra sodor a víz elpusztult pingvineket, de ilyen sokat csak nagyon ritkán.
Egy uruguayi állatmentő szervezet, az SOS Rescate de Fauna Marina vasárnap a közösségi médiában több mint 5000 elpusztult Magellán-pingvinről számolt be. Mint írták, az állatok azért pusztultak el, mert nem volt elegendő táplálékuk. Közlésük szerint a halhiányt az Atlanti-óceán déli részének túlhalászása és a klímaváltozás okozhatja.
A Magellán-pingvinek a szaporodási időszakban Patagóniához úsznak, majd több száz kilométert tesznek meg, hogy Brazília környékén élelmet és melegebb vizet találjanak a déli féltekén a téli időszakban.

Az elpusztult tengeri állatokra a nyugat-afrikai ország atlanti-óceáni partvidékének három különböző térségében bukkantak a hét végén – értesült az MTI.
„Mintegy 60 elpusztult delfint és számos kis halfajt számláltunk meg csak itt ezen a strandon. Nagyon szokatlan eset, és nem tudjuk, mi történt” – közölte Samuel Obeng, a Nyugati Térségben lévő Aximban élő halász a helyi sajtóval. -„Nagyon ritka, hogy ilyen nagy számban sodródjanak partra döglött halak” – jegyezte meg.
Az ország halászati bizottságának illetékesei közölték, hogy mintákat vettek a tetemekből laboratóriumi vizsgálatokra.
Michael Arthur-Dadzie vezérigazgató közleménye szerint első vizsgálódásaikban nem találtak semmilyen sérülést, horzsolást a tetemeken. A vízből is mintákat vettek, hogy meg tudják állapítani az állatok pusztulásának az okát.

Pár napja ütötte fel a fejét a madárinfluenza járványszerű megjelenése egy nyugat-lengyelországi tanyán. A lengyel PAP állami hírügynökség a helyi állategészségügyi hatóságokra hivatkozva számolt be az esetről. Wroniawy községben a H5N8 madárinfluenza jelent meg, ez a betegség 33. megjelenése idén.
„Ez egy olyan gazdaság, ahol 930 000 tojótyúkot tartanak. Vannak olyan területek is a közelben, ahol libák és más vadmadarak találhatók” – idézte a PAP a helyi állat-egészségügyi hatóságokat. Hozzátették, hogy a leölések csütörtökön megkezdődtek és akár hat napig is eltarthatnak.
A betegség emberre történő átterjedésének kockázatát alacsonynak tartják, de az állatokat érintő járvány korábbi megjelenéseit kiterjedt vágások és selejtezések követték. Szakértők szerint ez szükséges a betegség terjedésének megfékezéséhez.
A tapasztalatok alapján a madárinfluenza rendkívül fertőző és halálos formája gyorsan terjed Európában. A baromfiipar fokozottan néz szembe problémákkal, jelentős gazdasági veszteségekkel fenyegetnek a járványok.
A közönséges madárinfluenza néven ismert betegség már megjelent Franciaországban, Hollandiában, Németországban, Nagy-Britanniában, Belgiumban, Dániában, Írországban, Svédországban és ezen a héten Horvátországban, Szlovéniában és Lengyelországban is, korábban Oroszországot és Kazahsztánt is érintette.
Az esetek túlnyomó többsége eddig a vadmadarakat érintett, de a gazdaságokban is megjelentek a járványos megbetegedések – számolt be a német agrarheute mezőgazdasági híroldal. Ezek eddig összesen legalább 1,6 millió csirke és kacsa leöléséhez vagy selejtezéséhez vezettek.
Hollandiában az ősszel csaknem 500 000 csirke pusztult el a vírus miatt, és ezen a héten több mint 900 000 csirkét ölnek le Lengyelország egyetlen gazdaságában. A koronavírussal kapcsolatos tilalmak és korlátozások, illetve a madárinfluenzával kapcsolatos hírek jelentősen lelassíthatják az év végi, karácsonyi értékesítéseket, amelyek pedig hagyományosan nagyon fontosak az iparág számára.
A vadon élő madarakról a baromfitartó telepeken lévő állatokra viszonylag könnyen átterjedhet a betegség. Az elmúlt két évben Európában különféle madárinfluenza vírusok tömege jelent meg szakértők szerint. A fő influenzatörzs Európában ebben az évben a H5N8, amely már 2016/17-ben is pusztított, de előfordultak H5N5 és H5N1 esetek is.
Noha az emberre áterjedés kockázata kicsi, az Európai Élelmiszerbiztonsági Ügynökség (EFSA) a héten kijelentette, hogy a vírus evolúciója szoros megfigyelést igényel. Ismeretes, hogy a H5N1 törzs emberre is átterjedhet.

Több mint 5000 döglött fókabébit mosott partra a tenger Namíbiában Walvis Bay város közelében – jelentette be szerdán az Ocean Conservation Namibia (OCN) természetvédelmi szervezet.
Ilyen méretű és egyszerre történt vetélésre még nem volt példa
A szervezet által készített drónfelvételeken látszik, hogy halott kisfókák ezrei hevernek szerteszét a tengerparton a fókatelepeiről és delfiniskolájáról híres, a turisták körében kedvelt Pelican Point-félszigeten.
Katasztrófa szemtanúi vagyunk – kongatta meg a vészharangot Instagram-üzenetében az OCN, amely szerint idő előtt született és csaknem azonnal elpusztult fókabébik tetemeiről van szó.
Korábban is minden évben megfigyeltek néhány nőstényt, amely megfelelő mennyiségű élelem vélt hiányában megszabadult magzatától, de ilyen méretű tömeges vetélés még nem történt – állítja az Ocean Conservation Namibia.
Egyelőre nincs magyarázat a tömeges pusztulás okára
A namíbiai halászati minisztérium is megerősítette a fókavetélések „abnormálisan nagy” számát, de nem közölt konkrét adatokat, és a jelenségre sem tudott magyarázatot adni. Az OCN szerint a tömeges vetélés legvalószínűbb oka, hogy a félsziget térségéből valamiért eltűntek a halak, amelyek a fókák fő táplálékát jelentik, de lehet szó mérgezésről vagy betegségről is.
A civil szervezet és a minisztérium együtt keresi a magyarázatot a fókapusztulásra. A boncolás során kinyert szövetmintákat a Dél-afrikai Köztársaságba küldik vizsgálatra, mert Namíbia nem rendelkezik az ehhez szükséges eszközökkel.
Az éhezés verzióját alátámasztani látszik, hogy az érintett populáció egyedei kissé soványnak látszanak más fókatelepek lakóihoz képest. Hasonló tragédia történt 1994-ben, amikor éhínség miatt a Pelican Point fókapopulációjának egyharmada pusztult el.

Az elmúlt napok esőzései nyomán összeomlott a Bay-kastély az erdélyi Ördögkúton – közölte csütörtökön az Agerpres hírügynökség.
A XIX. század közepén neoromantikus stílusban épített kastélyban az államosítás után a helyi mezőgazdasági termelőszövetkezet székháza működött. Az épület 1990 után gazdátlan maradt és romossá vált. Egy 2018-ban végzett felmérés szerint már csak kilenc százaléka állt. A község polgármesterének a többször megismételt kérésére 2019-ben törölték a műemlékek országos lajstromáról.
Cristian Oros polgármester az Agerpresnek elmondta: hosszabb távon azt tervezik, hogy a kastély helyén építsék fel a polgármesteri hivatal új épületét.
A Bay-kastély utolsó tulajdonosa Bay Ferenc volt, aki a második világháború végén elmenekült a faluból. A szilágysági földbirtokost a román hatóságok felelősnek tartották azért, hogy 1940-ben a faluba bevonuló magyar honvédség – máig tisztázatlan körülmények között – konfliktusba keveredett az ortodox templomból valószínűleg tüzet nyitó falusiakkal, a kialakult lövöldözésnek 86 helybéli esett áldozatul.
Ákosy Károly ezredes verziója szerint a falu templomából a helybéli ortodox pópa lánya tüzet nyitott a bevonuló honvédekre, ezzel kiprovokálva a honvédség erőszakos fellépését. A helyszínre kiküldött vizsgálóbizottság igazat adott Ákosinak, mivel a helyszínen elrejtett fegyverek és lőszer került elő a földből.
A háború után, koncepciós perek során az ügyben helybeli magyar lakosokat ítéltek el. A kolozsvári népbíróság 1946. március 13-án 10-től 25 évig terjedő börtönbüntetésre ítélt három helybéli, magyar nemzetiségű személyt, akiket a mészárlás előkészítésének vádjával vontak vád alá.
Két másik helybéli személyt vád alá helyeztek, de felmentettek, távollétében halálra ítélték azonban báró Bay Ferenc földbirtokost, aki a vád szerint személyesen bujtotta fel Ákosi Károlyt a „mészárlásra”.
A település korábbi elöljárója közölte: a faluban nem nézik jó szemmel az egykori háborús bűnös birtokát.
A kastély összeomlására a Szilágy Megyei Történeti és Művészeti Múzeum kutatója, Horatiu Cocis hívta fel a figyelmet Facebook-bejegyzésében.
A muzeológus szerint a kastély a helybeliek lassú és vágyott rombolásának esett áldozatul. Összeomlásával pedig a gyűlölet, a felelőtlenség és a műveletlenség győzött.
Cocis nem tartotta elfogadhatónak azt, hogy a helyi közösség egy műemléképületen torolta meg mindazt, ami 1940-ben történt. A Bay-kastély két épületszárnyból állt, amelyeket a velencei Sóhajok hídja mintájára épült átkelő kötött össze.
