Hozzátette, az Eisenhower csatlakozik a USS Ford repülőgép-hordozó csapásmérő csoporthoz, amely a hét elején érkezett azon törekvésük részeként, hogy „elrettentsék az Izrael elleni ellenséges akciókat, vagy a Hamász támadását követő, háború kiszélesítésére irányuló bármely erőfeszítést”.

De a Fehér Ház közleményéből az is kiderül, hogy Biden szombaton beszélt Bejamin Netanjahu izraeli miniszterelnökkel, amelynek során az amerikai elnök megerősítette támogatását a polgári lakosság védelmére irányuló erőfeszítésekkel kapcsolatban. A hírügynökség szerint Austin is a civilek védelmét hangsúlyozta az izraeli kollégájával, Yoav Gallanttal folytatott telefonbeszélgetés során. „Megvitatta a hadijog betartásának fontosságát, beleértve a polgári védelmi kötelezettségeket, és a Gázában súlyosbodó humanitárius válság kezelését, miközben Izrael folytatja a biztonság helyreállítására irányuló műveleteit” – írták a Pentagon közleményében.
