A CNA beszámolója szerint az Egyesült Államok szombaton egy második repülőgép-hordozót telepített „az Izrael elleni ellenséges akciók elrettentésére”, miközben Joe Biden amerikai elnök a civilek védelmére szólított fel. Ennek kapcsán Lloyd Austin védelmi miniszter azt mondta, a USS Eisenhower és a hozzá tartozó hadihajók jelenléte a Földközi-tenger keleti részén Washington „szigorú elkötelezettségét fejezi ki Izrael biztonsága mellett”.



Egyúttal „eltökéltségüket bizonyítja azt illetően, hogy elrettentsenek minden olyan állami vagy nem állami szereplőt, amely megpróbálja eszkalálni ezt a háborút”. Hozzátette, az Eisenhower csatlakozik a USS Ford repülőgép-hordozó csapásmérő csoporthoz, amely a hét elején érkezett azon törekvésük részeként, hogy „elrettentsék az Izrael elleni ellenséges akciókat, vagy a Hamász támadását követő, háború kiszélesítésére irányuló bármely erőfeszítést”.

De a Fehér Ház közleményéből az is kiderül, hogy Biden szombaton beszélt Bejamin Netanjahu izraeli miniszterelnökkel, amelynek során az amerikai elnök megerősítette támogatását a polgári lakosság védelmére irányuló erőfeszítésekkel kapcsolatban. Továbbá azt is megvitatták, hogy az ártatlan civilek számára biztosítva legyen a vízhez, élelmiszerhez és orvosi ellátáshoz való hozzáférés.



Az amerikai elnök egyúttal Mahmúd Abbász palesztin vezetővel is kapcsolatba lépett, amelynek során Biden „elítélte a Hamász Izrael elleni brutális támadását”, valamint kijelentette, hogy a fegyveres csoport „nem képviseli a palesztin nép méltósághoz és önrendelkezéshez való jogát”. Mindemellett teljes körű támogatást ígért a Gázai övezetben élő palesztinok megsegítésére irányuló humanitárius erőfeszítéseket illetően.



A hírügynökség szerint Austin is a civilek védelmét hangsúlyozta az izraeli kollégájával, Yoav Gallanttal folytatott telefonbeszélgetés során. „Megvitatta a hadijog betartásának fontosságát, beleértve a polgári védelmi kötelezettségeket, és a Gázában súlyosbodó humanitárius válság kezelését, miközben Izrael folytatja a biztonság helyreállítására irányuló műveleteit” – írták a Pentagon közleményében.
