Őrizetbe vettek egy amerikai állampolgárt Thaiföldön, mert a Tripadvisor internetes oldalon írt értékelésében bírálta a szállodát, amelynek a vendége volt – írja a Világgazdaság.
Wesley Barnes – aki a délkelet-ázsiai országban él és dolgozik – a See View Resort szálló vendége volt Koh Chang üdülőszigeten. A tartózkodása után azt írta a szállodáról a Tripadvisor internetes oldalon megjelent értékelésben, hogy „a személyzet barátságtalan”, és olyan érzése volt, mintha nem látnák szívesen a vendéget.
A szálloda hitelrontás címén feljelentette volt vendégét, akit rövid időre őrizetbe is vettek. Jelenleg büntetőeljárás folyik ellene. Ha bűnösnek találják, két évig terjedő szabadságvesztésre vagy átszámítva bő hatezer dollár pénzbüntetésre ítélhetik.
Jogvédők régóta élesen bírálják a becsületsértés és rágalmazás Thaiföldön érvényben lévő törvényi szabályozását, mert befolyásos szereplők gyakran arra használják, hogy elnyomják a nekik nem tetsző véleményeket.
