A CBS News jelentése szerint a fiatalok egy egyházi tábor keretében látogattak el a texasi Surfside Beachre, ám amikor át akartak haladni a magasított sétányon, az összeomlott, melynek következtében legkevesebb 20 tinédzser megsérült.
A Bayou City Fellowship csoportja helyi idő szerint délután 1 óra körül a Stahlman Parkban tartózkodott, amikor a sétány hirtelen megadta magát: 5 tinédzser olyan súlyos sérüléseket szenvedett, hogy mentőhelikopterrel szállították őket kórházba, míg hat sérültet mentőautóval vittek be a környékbeli kórházakba.
Brazoria megye szóvivője sajtóközleményében azt is megosztotta, hogy további 9 tinédzsert autóval szállítottak a környékbeli egészségügyi intézményekbe. A szóvivő szerint életveszélyes sérülésekről nem érkezett jelentés.
A 14-18 év közötti egyházi csoport tagjai a texasi Cypressből, Tomballból és Spring Branchből érkeztek a texasi Surfside Beachre. Surfside Beach egy kisváros a Mexikói-öböl partján, Houston belvárosától mintegy 96 kilométerre délre.
