Egy nagyobb konténert pedig több mint kétszáz méternyire repített, „mint egy lövedéket”, és egy vasúti sín közelében ért földet – mondta Fewtrell. A robbanás erejétől a szomszédos ingatlanok fala is kidőlt.
Azt egyelőre nem lehet tudni, hogy mi okozta a tüzet. A tűzoltóság közölte, hogy a különleges érzékelőkkel felszerelt drónokkal folyamatosan figyelték, hogy milyen vegyi anyagok kerültek a levegőbe, és ezt vasárnap is folyamatosan ellenőrzik. Az ötszáz méteren belül élő embereket arra kérték, hogy maradjanak otthon, és ne nyissák ki az ablakaikat.
Az oltás közben két tűzoltó a kezén sérült meg a védőöltözéken is átszivárgó vegyi anyagoktól.

A tűzoltókat hétfő este fél 9 környékén riasztották a Mascot-i Airport Drive egyik parkolójához, a helyszínre pedig a légimentő tűzoltóság is kiérkezett, végül együttes erővel megfékezték a lángokat.
A tüzet okozó akkumulátor nem volt az autóban a baleset idején, ennek kapcsán pedig Adam Dewberry tűzoltó- és mentőfelügyelő elmondta, a tűzoltók úgy vélik, hogy az akkumulátort azért távolították el az autóból, mert az mechanikai sérüléseket szenvedett. Kiemelte:
„Ha a lítium akkumulátorok mechanikai sérülést szenvednek, hajlamosak a gyulladásra. Azt tanácsoljuk mindenkinek, akinek elektromos járműve van, mely kopog vagy nem úgy működik, ahogyan kellene, hogy vigye be egy márkakereskedésbe, és nézesse meg a technikusokkal.”
Dewberry arról is szót ejtett, hogy az elektromos robogók és az elektromos kerékpárok jelentik a legnagyobb aggodalmat, míg az elektromos autók akkumulátorai alacsony kockázatúnak számítanak, mivel az akkumulátorokat „magasabb és szigorúbb szabványoknak” vetik alá.

Két 13 éves gyerek feladta magát a rendőrségen az ausztráliai Sydney belvárosában csütörtökön keletkezett tűz miatt, amely két házban pusztított – közölte Új-Dél-Wales állam rendőrsége.
A pénteki rendőrségi sajtótájékoztatón elhangzott, hogy szemtanúk egy csoport fiatalt láttak elrohanni a helyszínről a tűz keletkezésekor.
A két diák, aki csütörtökön este adta fel magát két különböző rendőrőrsön, együttműködik a nyomozásban – közölte a rendőrség szóvivője, hozzátéve, hogy további három-négy fiatalról van tudomásuk, akik szintén a helyszínen voltak a tűz keletkezésekor.
A tűzoltóság tájékoztatása szerint a lángok csütörtökön 16 órakor csaptak fel egy hétemeletes épületben. A több mint százéves, egykor gyárként funkcionáló, védett épületben egy ideje már csak hajléktalanok húzták meg magukat, őket a 9News ausztrál hírtelevízió szerint sikerült kimenekíteni. A tűz, amelyet végül sikerült megfékezni, egy másik épületre is átterjedt. Mindkét házban komoly károk keletkeztek, egyes részeik beomlottak.
