Tűz ütött ki London egyik híres épületében, a kulturális és oktatási központként és kiállítótértként is működő Somerset House-ban. A Guardian tudósítása szerint 125 tűzoltó van a helyszínen. Az épülethez délben riasztották a tűzoltókat, de azóta is folyamatosan füst száll fel az épületből.
A tűzoltók szóvivője szerint főleg az épület tetőszerkezetét érintő lángokat kell megfékezniük, a helyszínen már egy 32 méteres létrát is bevetettek.
Az épületet teljesen lezárták a látogatók elől, a Somerset House környékén a forgalmat is korlátozhatják az oltás ideje alatt.
A tűz oka egyelőre nem ismert, a Somerset House is csak annyit közölt, hogy minden látogató és dolgozó biztonságban van, és a tűz az épület nyugati részét érintette, ahol jellemzően irodák vannak, egyetlen műtárgy sem sérült meg.
