Áradások pusztítanak a délkelet-ausztráliai Új-Dél-Wales államban. Medrükből kilépett folyókat, és elárasztott utcákat hagyott maga után az özönvízszerű esőzés Ausztrália egyik közkedvelt tengerparti városában.
Az utcákat szinte teljesen ellepte a víz, miután az ország délkeleti részére csaknem egy hónapnyi csapadékmennyiség zúdult. Az áradások utakat tettek járhatatlanná, rengeteg törmeléket sodorva magukkal.
„Néztük, ahogy a víz hömpölyög az utcán, majd egyszer csak azt láttuk, hogy egy kis faház nekiütközik a kerítésnek” – mesélte egy nő.
Az ítéletidő Sydney-t sem kímélte. A hatóságok közlése szerint az elmúlt két napban több mint 70 mentést hajtottak végre a városban. Az állam területéről pedig több mint négyezer segélyhívás érkezett a központba.
A hétvégén enyhült az időjárás, azonban a riasztások továbbra is érvényben vannak. A hatóságok azt kérik az emberektől, hogy a következő napokban is folyamatosan kövessék a figyelmeztetéseket.
„Egyes folyók továbbra is áradhatnak, és ez valós veszélyt jelent. Ezért nagyon fontos, hogy akik alacsonyan fekvő, árvízveszélyes területeken élnek, továbbra is hallgassák a Sürgősségi Szolgálat vészhelyzeti adásait” – nyilatkozta Új-Dél-Wales állam miniszterelnöke.
Szakértők szerint az éghajlatváltozás az elmúlt években felerősítette az időjárási szélsőségeket Ausztráliában.
