Az ukrán hadsereg képes lenne kiűzni a megszállókat Szeverodonyeckből, azonban a város nem stratégiai jelentőségű, ezért inkább Liszicsanszk védelmére kell összpontosítani – jelentette ki Szerhij Hajdaj Luhanszk megyei katonai kormányzó vasárnap a Szuszpilne televíziónak nyilatkozva.
A tudósítás szerint Hajdaj elmondta: „itt a hadvezetésnek kell döntenie, mert ki lehet űzni az oroszokat Szeverodonyeckből. Ezt a feladatot képesek vagyunk megoldani. Csak az a kérdés, hogy mi lesz a következő lépés? Elmennek és mindent megsemmisítenek nehéztüzérséggel és repülőgépekkel. Stratégiai szempontból Szeverodonyecknek nincs nagy jelentősége.”
Ugyanakkor a katonai kormányzó jelezte, hogy Liszicsanszk az elhelyezkedése miatt előnyösebb az ukrán hadsereg számára. Tekintettel azonban arra, hogy Szeverodonyeck megyeközpont, a város visszafoglalása növeli az ukránok harci kedvét, és demoralizálja az oroszokat zengzetes nyilatkozataik után, hogy ellenőrzik a várost – mutatott rá. „De hogyan ellenőrzik a várost, ahol harcok folynak? Csak tegnapelőtt hat foglyot ejtettünk. Miféle ellenőrzés ez? Tudjuk, hogy az oroszok egyszerűen csak hazudnak” – emelte ki Szerhij Hajdaj.
