Egy etióp állampolgárságú, menekültstátuszú férfit véletlenül szabadon engedtek Angliában az Essex megyei Chelmsfordban található börtönből. Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatut szeptemberben ítélték 12 hónap börtönbüntetésre egy 14 éves lány és egy felnőtt nő elleni szexuális zaklatás miatt. A hatóságok terve szerint eredetileg ki akarták toloncolni az etióp férfit, de bürokratikus hibák miatt szabadon engedték. Feltehetőleg felszállt egy Londonba tartó vonatra. A rendőrség az esetet követően országos elfogatóparancsot adott ki, és hajtóvadászatot indított.
Az ügy felháborodást váltott ki a közvéleményben, politikai vezetők is megszólaltak. Többek között Keir Starmer miniszterelnök és David Lammy igazságügyi miniszter is megszólalt, akik hangsúlyozták, hogy Kebatu szabadon engedése elfogadhatatlan, és azonnali elfogására van szükség.

A 48 éves Gerco van Deventer pénteken szabadult ki, és jelenleg egy algíri kórházban van orvosi megfigyelés alatt. Az állapotától függ, hogy mikor térhet haza a Dél-afrikai Köztársaságba.
A férfit – aki rohammentősként dolgozott egy biztonsági vállalatnál – 2017. november 3-án rabolták el Líbiában, miközben egy Tripolitól mintegy ezer kilométerre lévő erőműépítési területre utazott. Foglyul ejtése után elrablói Maliba vitték, ahol eladták az al-Kaida terrorszervezetnek.
Kiszabadításáért a Gift of the Givers elnevezésű humanitárius szervezet járt közben. A szervezet közleményében kiemelte, hogy eddig Deventer töltötte a legtöbb időt az al-Kaida fogságában a dél-afrikai állampolgárok közül.

A Gázai övezetet uraló Hamász iszlamista terrorszervezet bejelentette két újabb női túsz szabadon engedését hétfő este – közölte az izraeli média.
A Hamász bejelentette, hogy Katar és Egyiptom közvetítésével „humanitárius okokból” két további elrabolt személyt bocsátott szabadon. A bejelentést Izraelben hivatalosan megerősítették.
Az izraeli hatóságok hétfőig kétszázhuszonkét családot értesítettek arról, hogy a Hamász október 7-én végrehajtott terrortámadása során a Gázai övezetbe hurcolta szeretteiket.
Szabadon engedték a nyolcvanötéves Jocheved Lifsicet, akinek férje, Oded Lifsic a Hamász fogságában maradt, és a hetvennyolc éves Nurit Kufert, akinek férjét, Amiram Kufert szintén elhurcolták, és őt sem engedték szabadon.
Mindkét asszonyt otthonukból, a Gázai övezet szomszédságában lévő Nir Óz kibucból vitték a terrortámadás napján a Gázai övezetbe. Az idős asszonyok az izraeli közszolgálati televízió értesülése szerint holokauszt-túlélők, és állandóan gyógyszerek szedésére szorulnak, amelyekhez elrablásuk óta nem jutottak hozzá.

Az afganisztáni tálibok elengedtek négy, eltűntnek hitt nőjogi aktivistát és családtagjaikat, akik sorsáról sokáig nem lehetett tudni – közölte vasárnap az ENSZ afganisztáni missziója (UNAMA).
Csaknem egy hónapja Parvana Ibrahimhel és Tamana Parjáni nőjogi aktivistát őrizetbe vették, és elhurcolták kabuli otthonukból. Parjáni még közzé tudott tenni egy segítségkérő videóüzenetet, mielőtt őt és nővéreit elfogták.
Murszal Ajar és Zahra Mohammadi aktivistát pedig február elején vették őrizetbe.
A tavaly augusztusban hatalomra került radikális iszlamista tálibok elleni békés tüntetéseket szervező aktivisták önkényes őrizetbe vétele nagyszabású nemzetközi felháborodást váltott ki.
A tálibok a történtek idején nem erősítették meg az őrizetbe vételeket, és azzal vádolták az aktivistákat, hogy hamis videókat készítenek, amelyekre hivatkozva nyugati országokban folyamodhatnak menedékért.
Rina Amiri, az Egyesült Államok afgán nők, lányok és az emberi jogok ügyében illetékes különmegbízottja Twitter-oldalán arról írt, hogy a tálibok negyven embert, köztük 29 nőt vettek őrizetbe pénteken.
„Véget kell vetni ezeknek az igazságtalan őrizetbe vételeknek” – hangsúlyozta Amiri üzenetében, amelyet azonban nem sokkal később minden indoklás nélkül törölt oldaláról.
Ugyanakkor továbbra sincs hír Alia Azizi afgán rendőrnőről, akinek több hónapja veszett nyoma Afganisztán nyugati részén.
A dpa hírügynökség megjegyezte, hogy a tálibok hatalomra kerülésük óta számos olyan intézkedést vezettek be, amelyek korlátozzák a nők és a lányok jogait, sőt ha tüntettek ezek ellen, akkor a demonstrálókat őrizetbe vették, megverték, megfenyegették. Arról is keringenek információk, hogy egyes nők végleg eltűnnek, meggyilkolják őket, és ezért senkit nem vonnak felelősségre.

Szabadon engedték letartóztatása után csaknem két héttel a dpa német hírügynökségnek dolgozó lengyel újságírót, Robert Bociagát Mianmarban. Csütörtökön a ranguni repülőtérről indult Varsó felé.
Az újságírót két hete katonák vették őrizetbe a kelet-mianmari San állam székhelyén, Taundzsíban, miközben a puccs elleni tüntetésekről tudósított.
Sven Gösmann, a dpa főszerkesztője elmondta, nagyon megkönnyebbültek a hír hallatán. Az eset nemzetközi visszhangot váltott ki, különböző szervezetek követelték Bociaga, illetve a délkelet-ázsiai országban letartóztatott többi újságíró azonnali szabadon engedését.
Mianmarban rendszeresek a tüntetések azóta, hogy a hadsereg február 1-jén átvette a hatalmat és őrizetbe vette Vin Mjint elnököt, az ország de facto vezetőjét, a Nobel-békedíjas Aung Szan Szú Kjí államtanácsost, valamint pártja, a Nemzeti Liga a Demokráciáért (NLD) több magas rangú tisztségviselőjét.
A Politikai Foglyokat Támogató Egyesület (AAPP) nevű mianmari jogvédő szervezet csütörtöki közlése szerint legalább 280 ember vesztette életét a biztonsági erők fellépésének következtében. A szervezet szerint eddig több mint 2900 embert vettek őrizetbe. Szerdán mintegy 600 foglyot, többségében diákot szabadon engedtek.
