Saját bevallása szerint a londoni Szent Pál-székesegyházat akarta felrobbantani egy brit öngyilkosmerénylő-jelölt – írja az MTI. A nőt tavaly októberben vették őrizetbe egy kiterjedt elhárítási akció eredményeként.
A 36 éves Safiyya Shaikh, aki Michelle Ramsden névben született Londonban, pénteken állt a londoni központi büntetőbíróság elé. A pénteki első tárgyalási napon elhangzott, hogy Safiyya Shaikh az Iszlám Állam támogatója volt.
A nő akkor került a terrorelhárító szolgálatok látókörébe, amikor két hónappal őrizetbe vétele előtt két, magát szintén terrorszimpatizáns házaspárnak kiadó titkosszolgálati tisztnek mondta el részletesen tervét, és tőlük kérte, hogy szerezzenek neki pokolgépet a tervezett merénylethez. Egy találkozón a nő még egy hátzsákot is átadott, hogy annak a méretére gyártsák le a pokolgépeket.
Az ügyészek bemutatták a bíróságon azokat az üzeneteket, amiben a merénylőjelölt kijelenti, hogy „nagyon sok embert” akar megölni, és ennek helyszínéül az anglikanizmus londoni főtemplomát, a Szent Pál-katedrálist szemelte ki, ahol annak idején Károly walesi herceg, és a néhai Diana hercegnő is megesküdött.
A vádirat szerint a nő terepszemlét is tartott, és videót is készített épületről, amit szintén elküldött az általa támogatóknak hitt titkosszolgálati ügynököknek. A videóhoz mellékelt üzenetében közölte, hogy a kupola alatt akarta felrobbantani a pokolgépet, és le akarta rombolni az egész templomot.
Safiyya Shaikh ellen a hatóságok terrorcselekmény végrehajtására tett előkészületek címén emeltek vádat, a nő pedig elismerte, hogy terrortámadás elkövetésére készült. Az ügyben várhatóan májusban születik ítélet.
