A Los Angeles-i szövetségi bíróságon benyújtott kereset szerint a Paramount elmulasztotta visszavásárolni Ehud Yonay, a California magazin egyik 1983-as számában megjelent Top Guns című cikkének jogait a szerző családjától, mielőtt megjelentette volna a film folytatását.
Ehud Yonay özvegye és fiai, Shosh Yonay és Yuval Yonay – akik jelenleg Izraelben élnek – azt állítják, hogy a vállalat szándékosan figyelmen kívül hagyta azt, hogy a szerzői jogok 2020 januárjában visszaszálltak rájuk, és ezzel megkerülték a szövetségi szerzői jogi törvényeket.
A Top Gun: Maverick az idei év eddigi legnagyobb filmes kasszasikere. Észak-Amerikában 291 millió dollárt (105 milliárd forint), világszerte pedig 548,6 milliót (200 milliárd forint) hozott a bemutatást követő első 10 napban.
