Két olajszállító tartályhajó gyulladt ki péntek kora reggel egy Szingapúrtól keletre történt ütközés után, ami újabb kérdéseket vetett fel a tengeri közlekedést, a környezetet és az emberi életeket fenyegető növekvő kockázatokkal kapcsolatban a világ egyik legforgalmasabb vízi útvonalán – írja a Bloomberg.
A szingapúri zászló alatt közlekedő Hafnia Nile finomított termékeket szállító tartályhajó és a Sao Tome és Principe lobogója alatt hajózó Ceres I nyersolajszállító tartályhajó 55 kilométerre északkeletre, a Szingapúri-szoros keleti bejáratánál lévő Pedra Branca apró szigetétől. A két hajó pénteken kora reggel ütközött össze, melyet a dán Hafnia hajózási vállalat közölt közleményben, hozzátéve, hogy a 22 fős legénység mind a 22 tagját kimentették.
Nem volt azonnal világos, hogy mi okozta az ütközést, bár az öregedő Ceres I, amely üresen tartott vissza Kínából, kiemeli azokat a kihívásokat, amelyek a Malakkai-szoroson keresztül szankcionált nyersolajat szállító, idősebb, gyakran nem biztosított hajókkal járnak.
A Ceres I-et 2001-ben építették, ami azt jelenti, hogy még mindig jóval azon a korszakon túl van használatban, amikor a legtöbb tulajdonos már fontolóra venné egy hajó leselejtezését.
A Kpler piackutató cég adatai szerint a hajó idén és tavaly Iránból és Venezuelából szállított rakományt. A Clarkson Research Services, a világ legnagyobb hajóközvetítőjének egyik egysége szerint Sao Tome lobogóját a több tízezer hajóból álló kereskedelmi flottából mindössze 55 hajó használja.

A közelben tartózkodott a haditengerészet egyik hajója, az RSS Supreme, amely egy katonai helikopterrel együtt segítséget nyújtott. A Ceres I legénységének 40 tagját megtalálták, bár néhányan még a fedélzeten vannak, és a tűzzel küzdenek.

Két hajó ütközött össze, az egyik tartályából borult a rakomány a tengerbe. Tizenhat tisztítójárművet küldtek a helyszínre, hogy megfékezzék a szennyezést.
Több strandot is le kellett zárni a Sentosa-szigeten található Tanjong Beach partján, miután összeütközött két hajó – számolt be róla a Sky News.
Az olajszennyezés a közeli Pasir Panjang hajózási termináljáról terjedt el, miután egy kotróhajó pénteken egy álló bunkerhajónak ütközött. A Szingapúri Tengerészeti és Kikötői Hatóság még aznap közölte, hogy a bunkerhajtó sérült rakománytartájából ömlött az olaj a vízbe, a szivárgást már sikerült megfékezni, de további 16 takarítójárművet is útnak indítottak, hogy összegyűjtsék a vízfelszínen úszó szennyezéseket.
A környezetszennyezést viszont így sem lehet elkerülni. A halászközösségek halpusztulásra számítanak, a tengerbiológusok pedig a korallokat féltik. Szingapúr területén már így is nagyon veszélyeztetett az állomány, a globális felmelegedés például egyáltalán nem tesz neki jót.
Az egyik környezetvédő azt mondta, hogy az olaj mérgező, megfojthatja a korallokat. Elzárja őket a fotoszintézishez szükséges fénytől.
További problémát okozhat az olaj tisztításához használt vegyi anyagok hatása is. Egyes szerekről ugyanis megállapították, hogy nem felszívódik a szénhidrogén általuk, hanem megnő a sűrűségük, és elsüllyednek, így tovább szennyezik a tengeri élővilágot.

A CNA jelentése szerint egy társasház építési területén fedezték fel a mintegy 100 kilogrammos második világháborús légibombát, ami miatt Upper Bukit Timahban több mint 4000 embernek kellett elhagynia otthonát. A tűzszerészek kedden vonultak ki a helyszínre, hogy biztosítsák a fel nem robbant relikviát.
A CNA értesülései szerint a tűzszerészeti akció több mint 4000 lakost érintett, a kiürített terület pedig több mint 1000 lakóépületet és üzletházat foglal magában. A hatalmas második világháborús légibombát a múlt héten fedezték fel a Myst társasház építési területén, a Cashew MRT állomás közelében.
A Szingapúri Fegyveres Erők (SAF) tűzszerész szakértői akkor úgy ítélték meg, hogy nem lenne biztonságos a robbanótest elszállítása, így bejelentették, hogy helyi idő szerint kedden reggel 8 és este 7 óra között „helyszíni ellenőrzött hatástalanítást” fognak elvégezni.
A hatóságok vasárnap találkozókat szerveztek a környék lakóival, melyek során tájékoztatták őket a helyzetről, s arról, hogy mire számíthatnak. A portál munkatársai hétfő délután látogattak el a helyszínre, beszámolóik szerint pedig akkor a Szingapúri Fegyveres Erők (SAF) legkevesebb 30 katonája dolgozott a helyszínen.
