A jelentés szerint Tocsickij elmondta: „Ma éjjel az ellenség ismét identitásunk szívébe csapott. Megrongálódott a kijevi Szent Szófia-székesegyház – egy szentély, amely évszázadokon át fennmaradt, és államiságunk születését szimbolizálja.”
A miniszter szavai szerint a robbanás lökéshulláma elpusztította a 11. századi emlékmű fő apszisának párkányát.
