Pak Von Szun eltűnéséről a lánya értesítette a szöuli rendőrséget csütörtök reggel. A polgármesteri hivatal közölte, hogy Pak valóban nem jelent meg a munkahelyén tisztázatlan okból.



A hatóságok a polgármester mobiltelefonjának utolsó jelzései alapján Szöul Szungbuk kerületében kezdték el keresni. Végül – helyi idő szerint későn éjjel – egy erdő borította hegyvidéken találták meg a holttestet Dél-Korea fővárosának északi részén. A kutatás hét órán át tartott, 600 rendőr és tűzoltó vett benne részt kutyák és drónok segítségével.



A 64 éves polgármester halálának körülményei és eltűnésének oka egyelőre nem tisztázott, de valószínű, hogy öngyilkos lett. Erre utal, hogy lányának olyan telefonüzenetet küldött, amely végakarat-sugallatú. A lehetséges ok: szerda éjjel Pak egyik titkárnője feljelentette a polgármestert a rendőrségen sorozatos szexuális zaklatásért, amely az ő esetében három éve kezdődött.







A titkárnő emellett azt is állította, hogy a városházán más nők is elszenvedték a férfi hasonló közeledését.



Pak eredetileg jogász, és ügyészként ő volt az első Dél-Koreában, akinek sikerült elítéltetnie egy vádlottat szexuális zaklatásért.



Dél-Korea csaknem 10 millió lakosú fővárosát 2011 óta vezeti, és tavaly júniusban harmadszor is megválasztották polgármesternek.
