Az eset Neszterjanka és Mirne települések között történt, a tank egy Tavria típusú személygépkocsin hajtott átt, melyben civilek utaztak. Az információk szerint az áldozatok el akarták hagyni a veszélyes zónát, s megálltak az út szélén.
