Az Egyesült Államok elnöke, Joe Biden jóváhagyta taposóaknák szállítását Ukrajnának ‒ jelentette be egy névtelenséget kérő amerikai kormánytisztviselő a Reuters hírügynökségnek. Ez a lépés jelentősen befolyásolhatja az orosz-ukrán konfliktus menetét, különösen Kelet-Ukrajna térségében.
A döntés hátterében az a stratégiai megfontolás áll, hogy a taposóaknák telepítése lassíthatja az orosz szárazföldi csapatok előre nyomulását Ukrajna keleti részén. A kormánytisztviselő hangsúlyozta, hogy az Egyesült Államok elvárása szerint Ukrajna kizárólag saját területén fogja használni ezeket az eszközöket ‒ írta meg a Reutersre hivatkozva a Newsweek Japan.
Az amerikai taposóaknák jelentősen különböznek orosz megfelelőiktől. A tisztviselő elmondása szerint ezek az eszközök nem állandó jellegűek, hanem egy előre meghatározott időtartam után automatikusan hatástalanná válnak. Működésükhöz elem szükséges, amely lemerülése után az akna nem képes felrobbanni. Ez a technológia csökkenti a hosszú távú veszélyeket és megkönnyíti a konfliktus utáni aknamentesítést.

Legkevesebb 5500 ember esett taposóaknák áldozatául 2021 közepe és 2022 októbere között, közülük sokan életüket vesztették, s legkevesebb 60 ország területén a mai napig találhatóak aktív aknák – derült ki a taposóaknák betiltásáért küzdő nemzetközi szervezet (ICBL) idei, csütörtökön közzétett jelentéséből.
A genfi központú szervezet szerint Mianmaron kívül Oroszország volt az egyetlen állam, amely a taposóaknák használatához folyamodott a 2021 közepe és 2022 októbere közti bő egyéves időszakban.
A nehezen észrevehető, robbanékony fegyverekből sokat az Ukrajna által visszafoglalt területeken fedeztek fel, s részben már el is távolítottak.
A taposóaknákat, melyek általában tenyérnyi méretűek, mind a földről, mind a levegőből, repülőgépekről vagy rakétával könnyen szét lehet szórni egy adott területen. Apró méretük miatt aligha kivédhetőek, s legtöbbször gyanútlan civilek esnek a robbanószerkezetek áldozatául.
A szervezet jelentése szerint a mianmari junta leginkább olyan fontos infrastruktúrák védelmére használja az efféle fegyvereket, mint a föld alatti vezetékek, telefontornyok vagy nyersanyag-kitermeléssel és -kereskedelemmel foglalkozó vállalatok telephelyei.
2021-ben az MTI szerint legalább öt országban alkalmaztak taposóaknákat nem állami fegyveres szervezetek, köztük Kolumbiában, Indiában és a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban is. Tizenegy ország területén – úgy, mint India, Irán, Mianmar, Pakisztán vagy Oroszország – a mai napig állítanak elő ilyen robbanószerkezeteket.

Csaknem 40 évvel a brit–argentin konfliktus után takarították el az utolsó gyalogsági aknát a Falkland-szigeteken – közölte kedden Dominic Raab brit külügyminiszter Londonban. A tárcavezető hangsúlyozta, hogy brit fennhatóság alatt lévő területeken nem maradtak gyalogság elleni aknák.
Egyúttal London támogatja az afrikai, az ázsiai, illetve a közel-keleti aknaszedési programot.
A Falkland-szigeteken az aknaszedési műveletek nagy részét egy zimbabwei cég munkatársai végezték. November 14-re egy krikett- és labdarúgó-mérkőzésekkel kísért ünnepélyes ceremónia során akarják felrobbantani az utolsó ilyen harceszközt. A jövőben a sportrendezvényeket az Atlanti-óceán déli részén található szigetcsoport strandjain is megtarthatják, ahol eddig táblák figyelmeztettek az aknaveszélyre.
Az aknák felszedését 2009-ben kezdték meg, és a tervezettnél három évvel korábban sikerült lezárni. Argentína 1982-ben megszállta az 1833 óta brit fennhatóság alatt lévő Falkland-szigeteket, amit egy 74 napos véres konfliktus követett a brit hadsereggel. A brit győzelemmel zárult háborúban 255 brit és 649 argentin katona, illetve három szigetlakó halt meg.
A szigetcsoport az Egyesült Királyság saját kormányzású tengerentúli területe. A Falkland-szigetek 400 kilométerre találhatóak az argentin partvidéktől és mintegy 12 700 kilométerre Londontól.
