A hitelezők egy kijevi étterem előtt várták az áldozatot. Amikor a férfi az autójába ült, kilyukasztották a kerekét. Ennek ellenére, érezve a fenyegetést, a férfi elhajtott. A három gyanúsított üldözni kezdte, és lövéseket adtak le az autóra. Végül a külföldi elhagyta az autót és gyalog menekült, de a támadók utolérték és megverték, követelve, hogy mindegyiküknek fizesse vissza a 40 ezer dollárt.
