Súlyos incidens történt New Yorkban, ahol egy taxis több gyalogost is elgázolt, köztük egy 9 éves fiúval és édesanyjával.
A rendőrség és egy csoport irgalmas szamaritánus segített a mentésben, hogy a 9 éves fiú és édesanyja a lehető leggyorsabban kórházba kerüljenek. Több más gyalogost is elgázolt a taxis a Herald Square-en, ami az ünnepek idején különösen forgalmas és népszerű.
Nem sokkal délután 4 óra után kezdődött a káosz, amikor az 58 éves sofőr felhajtott a járdára a forgalmas kereszteződésben. A hat elgázolt személy, köztük öt nővel és a gyermekkel, nem életveszélyes sérüléseket szenvedtek. A gyermeket és a 41 éves édesanyját is kórházba szállították, akárcsak egy 49 éves nőt.
A második három elgázolt személy, akik 19, 37 és 49 évesek, megtagadták az orvosi ellátást. A New York Post az ABC 7-re hivatkozva írta azt, hogy egy szemtanú szerint a forgó kerék a gyerek lábának felső részén volt, majd rögtön a segítségére siettek. Az egyik civil a taxihoz rohant, és gyorsan leállította a motort.
A rendőrség még mindig vizsgálja a baleset okát, de úgy tűnik, hogy baleset történt. Ettől függetlenül a taxis akár súlyosabb büntetésre is számíthat, mert ha valóban hibázott, azzal többek életét sodorta veszélybe.
Ugyan nagy pánik tört ki az ütközést követően, sokan nem haboztak azonnal segíteni. Ez a New York-i metróban pár nappal ezelőtt már nem így történt, senki nem segített a felgyújtott nőn, aki a szemük láttára égett halálra. Amiatt is vizsgálat indult, az feltételezések feltételezések szerint a rendőrség késlekedett a segítségnyújtásban.
