Több mint 120 kutyát mentettek ki egy viadal telephelyéről az Egyesült Államokban, New Jersey-ben. Az állatokat embertelen körülmények között tartották. Az orvosi vizsgálatok szerint kezeletlen sebek és szúrt sérülések is voltak az ebeken, így állapotuk alapján kifejezetten kutyaviadalra szaporították őket.
Embertelen körülmények között találtak rá a kutyákra egy házkutatáson New Jersey-ben. Az állatokat sivár karámokban és ketrecekben tartották, kültéri kennelekben, nehéz láncokra verve – ismertette Az Én Kutyám az Egyesült Államok Humán Társaságának sajtóközleményét.
A mentési akcióban az állatorvosok is részt vettek, akik már a helyszínen megvizsgálták az ebeket, és megkezdték az ellátásukat. A szervezet szerint a körülmények és a kutyák állapota alapján ezeket az állatokat kifejezetten viadalra szaporították.
A kutyákon kezeletlen sebek vagy már behegedt sérülések voltak.
Mint írták, a viadalos kutyák esetében jellemzőek a szúrt, vágott és harapott sebek, továbbá a zúzódások és a csonttörések. Ha nem ezekbe, akkor valamilyen fertőzésbe, a nagy vérveszteségbe vagy a harc miatti kimerültségbe, illetve sokkba halnak bele. Nem ritka a kiszáradás miatti kimúlás sem. A sérülteken kívül lesoványodott példányok, valamint vemhes és szoptatós nőstények is voltak a helyszínen.
„Megdöbbentő, hogy a kutyaviadalokkal járó szenvedés mértéke mennyire ellentétes azzal, hogy ezek a kutyák mennyire kedvesek és szeretetre éhesek” – mondta Janette Reever, a szervezet állatbűnözési nyomozati programjának vezetője a közleményben. Az állatokat végül egy biztonságos helyre szállították, ahol folytatják kezelésüket.

A rablók olyannyira „jól végezték” a dolgukat, hogy a lopásra csak másnap reggel derült fény, amikor a tulaj kinyitotta a raktárat. A széf sértetlen volt, nem lehetett látni feszegetésre utaló nyomot.
Mint később kiderült, a tolvajok a tetőn keresztül jutottak be a létesítménybe és anélkül sikerült megfújniuk a pénzt, hogy a komoly riasztórendszer működésbe lépett volna. Az épület oldalán tátongó lyukról még nem tudták megmondani, hogy a betörésből származik-e.
A rablás az egyik legnagyobb Los Angeles történetében, és a régió összes páncélautó-lopását is felülmúlta.
A rendőrség nagy erőkkel keresi a tolvajokat.
