Őrizetbe vették az olasz haditengerészet egy meg nem nevezett fregattkapitányát és egy orosz katonai tisztviselőt kedd éjjel Rómában – írja a Reuters. Az olasz csendőrség közleménye szerint kémkedéssel gyanúsítják őket: a fregattkapitány éppen pénzért adott át dokumentumokat, amikor rajtuk ütöttek egy parkolóban. A dokumentumok között többek között a NATO-val kapcsolatos iratok voltak az Ansa hírügynökség szerint. A BBC szerint az orosz tiszt 5000 eurót adott volna az iratokért.
A történtek után az olasz külügyminisztérium azonnal bekérette az orosz nagykövetet, majd kiutasítottak két orosz diplomatát. A kiutasított diplomatáknak Luigi Di Maio külügyminiszter szerint szintén közük volt az általa rendkívül súlyosnak nevezett ügyhöz. Az nem derült még ki, hogy közöttük volt-e az, akivel a fregattkapitány találkozott. Az MTI szerint a rajtaütés után mindenesetre vizsgálták az őrizetben tartásának jogi körülményeit, mivel diplomáciai mentességet élvez.
Az orosz Interfax értesülése szerint Oroszország – az eddigi gyakorlatnak megfelelően – kiutasítással válaszol majd diplomatáinak kiutasítására. Az orosz külügyminisztérium szerint ugyanakkor a történtek nem fenyegetik a két ország kapcsolatát. Szintén a BBC idézi Dimitrij Peszkovot, a Kreml szóvivőjét, aki állítja, Oroszország nem is tud semmit az ügy körülményeiről.
Sorban buknak le az orosz kémek
Az utóbbi időben több orosz kémet is lelepleztek Európa-szerte a dpa hírügynökség szerint. Mint az MTI idézi, Bulgáriában egy egész katonai csoportot füleltek le márciusban, és kiutasítottak két orosz diplomatát. Svédországban egy férfit azzal gyanúsítottak meg, hogy pénzért bizalmas információkat adott svéd cégekről Oroszországnak. Németországban pedig még februárban emeltek vádat egy férfi ellen, azzal gyanúsítva őt, hogy átadta a berlini parlament padlójának terveit egy orosz hírszerzőnek. A Reuters szerint decemberben Hollandiából is kiutasítottak egy kémkedéssel gyanúsított orosz tisztviselőt.
