Amerikai tisztviselők aggódnak egy potenciálisan jelentős biztonsági előírás megsértése miatt, miután egy Iránnal kapcsolatban álló Telegram-fiók közzétett két állítólagos amerikai hírszerzési dokumentumot Izrael Irán elleni támadásra való felkészüléséről – írja a Visegrád 24. Az Egyesült Államok Védelmi Minisztériuma és az FBI vizsgálatot folytat az Irán elleni izraeli megtorló csapással kapcsolatos, a közelmúltban kiszivárogtatott, szigorúan titkos dokumentumok forrásának megállapítására, amelyek az iráni támogatású milíciákhoz kapcsolódó távirati csatornákon jelentek meg. Egy forrás szerint a dokumentumokat valószínűleg az amerikai hadsereg egyik tagja szivárogtatta ki, s az ügy hasonló az ukrajnai háborúról szóló dokumentumok kiszivárogtatásához, amely 2023 áprilisában történt, és amely a Massachusetts-i Légi Nemzeti Gárda egyik légierő tagjához kapcsolódott.
Az gond azonban ennél nagyobb is lehet, hiszen az X közösségi oldalon már több orosz háborús mikróblogger is beszámolt képekkel arról, hogy az amerikai THAAD rendszert Izraelben, a Nevatim légibázis közelében telepítették le. Ezt a fegyverrenszert az US Army Missile Conmand 1. Space Brigade kezeli és antiballisztikus rakétabázisként működik.
A THAAD az AN/TPY-2 radar segítségével követi nyomon az ellenséges ballisztikus rakétákat, amint azok az űrbe repülnek, és a radar irányítja a THAAD rakétákat is, hogy megsemmisítse a beérkező ballisztikus rakétákat. A THAAD-rendszer működésbe lépésekor a korai figyelmeztető radar érzékeli a ballisztikus rakéták kilövéseit, és követi azokat a repülése során. Ez a radar alacsonyabb frekvencián működik, ami szélesebb érzékelési tartományt biztosít. Ahogy a rakéta eléri sebessége végfokozatát, a terminálradar aktiválja a magasabb frekvenciájú (11-12Ghz) X-sávú mikrohullámú radarját, ami lehetővé teszi, hogy nyomon kövesse és felé terelje az antiballisztikus rakétát. A Pentagon október 13-án arról számolt be, hogy a THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) ütege megerősíti kulcsfontosságú szövetségesének már amúgy is rendkívül hatékony légvédelmét. A THAAD a legfejlettebb és legerősebb rakétaelhárító rendszerek közé tartozik az amerikai arzenálban. Izrael már jelenleg is több, az Egyesült Államokkal közösen kifejlesztett légvédelmi rendszert használ a különböző távolságból kilőtt drónok és rakéták elhárítására; ilyen a Vaskupola, a Dávid Parittyája és a Nyíl.
Az USA döntése azután született meg, hogy Irán több száz raktétával támadta október elsején Izraelt.
