Egy helikopter egy rádiótoronyba csapódott vasárnap este a texasi Houstonban, a hatóságok szerint több ember, köztük egy gyermek a balesetben meghalt.
A houstoni tűzoltóság szerint az eset a város Greater East End negyedében történt helyi idő szerint este 7 óra 54 perckor. Egyelőre nem világos, hogy a magánhelikopter négy emberrel a fedélzetén a toronyból jövő kábelnek ütközhetett-e, vagy ténylegesen a toronyba csapódott – mondta el sajtótájékoztatón a houstoni rendőrfőnök.
Egyelőre nem tudni pontos adatokat a halottak számát illetően, és a gyerek korát sem hozták nyilvánosságra – írja a Fox News.

Ez a legnagyobb jégeső, amit valaha láttam úgy, hogy több mint 30 éve kergetem a vihart – mondta. Elmondása szerint több baseball labda méretű jégeső esett, miközben vezetett, berepedt a szélvédője. Az ananász méretűt egy árokban találta.

Az eset a távol-keleti félsziget hegyvidékén, a Viljucsinszk-vízesésénél történt, amely népszerű turisztikai látványosság. A vízesés 39 kilométerre délnyugatra fekszik Petropavlovszk-Kamcsatszkij településtől.
A 2173 méter magas Viljucsinszkij vulkán lejtőin több gleccser van, amelyek patakokat táplálnak. A szóban forgó vízesés a vulkán északnyugati lejtőinél csordogáló patakokból alakult ki, a víz a vulkán lábánál negyvenméteres magasságból zuhan egy hómezőre.

Ray Sappington Cooke megyei seriff vasárnap reggel a CNN-nek nyilatkozva osztotta meg, hogy 5 ember életét vesztette a texasi Cooke megyében, köztük gyermekek. Az éjszaka folyamán valószínűleg egy tornádó csapott le Texasra, miközben a heves viharok széles körben áramkimaradásokat okoztak.
Cooke megye térségéből két gyermek eltűnéséről jelentettek, akiket a legfrissebb jelentések szerint vasárnap reggelig még nem találtak meg. Az Egyesült Államok egyes területein vasárnap is hatalmas vihar várható: több mint 110 millió embert fenyeget nagy jégeső, károkat okozó szél és heves forgószél,főként a Mississippi középső részén, az Ohio és a Tennessee folyó völgyében.
Ahogy a viharok kelet felé haladnak, a Vihar-előrejelző Központ „heves tornádókra, extrém jégesőre és széles körű szélkárokat okozó folyosókra” figyelmeztette a lakosságot. A Cooke megyei seriff azt is elárulta, hogy mintegy 60-80 ember rekedt egy Shell benzinkúton, s egészen a vihar elvonulásáig ott is ragadtak. Houstonban és környékén szombaton is mintegy félmillió háztartás és vállalkozás maradt áram nélkül a súlyos viharok következtében. A halálos áldozatok száma eközben hétre emelkedett.
Texas sűrűn lakott délkeleti részének hatóságai további három halálos áldozatról számoltak be helyi idő szerint péntek este, köztük egy 85 éves asszonyról, akinek a háza villámcsapás nyomán gyulladt ki. Előzőleg Houston polgármestere már négy halálos áldozatról beszámolt.
A nagyvárosba csütörtök késő este érkezett a vihar, hurrikán erejű, óránkénti 160 kilométeres sebességet meghaladó széllel, aminek nyomán Houston belvárosában számos toronyház ablaka kitört és épületek homlokzata károsodott.
Összesen csaknem egy millió fogyasztónál szűnt meg az áramszolgáltatás, a teljes helyreállítás napokig tarthat még, mert nem csak villanyvezetékek szakadtak le, de magasfeszültségű elektromos elosztó tornyok is ledőltek.
A városi tisztségviselők a helyreállítási munkával párhuzamosan egy közelgő hőhullámra készülnek, és az áramellátás nélkül maradt lakosok számára „hűsölő központokat” nyitottak meg, azaz légkondicionált helyiségeket nyitottak.
A hőség miatt több száz mobil klímaberendezést juttattak el idősek, és mozgáskorlátozottak számára is.
A következő napokban a hőmérséklet napi csúcsértéke tartósan meghaladhatja a 35 fokot, miközben a nagy páratartalom miatt a hőérzet megközelítheti a 40 fokot Houston körzetében, és Texas teljes déli területein.

Texast hetek óta szélsőséges időjárás sújtja az Egyesült Államok délnyugati részén. A folyamatos esőzések miatt a folyók megáradtak, és a kiömlő víz több házat és utat is elárasztott. Az állam nyugati részén a nagy mennyiségű csapadék mellett tornádók is károkat okoznak. A szélsőséges időjárás következtében tucatnyi embert kellett evakuálni, és bár több sérültről tudnak, halálesetről nem érkezett bejelentés eddig.
Legkevesebb 178 embert menekítettek ki otthonából és járművéből a texasi Harris megyében a hétvégén pusztító esőzések és erős viharok következtében – írja a CNN. Lina Hidalgo, Harris megyei bíró halálesetről vagy súlyos sérülésről nem számolt be. Elmondta, hogy a háziállatok biztonságáról sem feledkeznek meg, így eddig több mint 100 háziállatot mentettek meg az áradás sújtotta vidéken.

Egy ember meghalt, sokan megsebesültek Texasban, amikor egy férfi lopott kamionnal, bosszúból belehajtott az állami közbiztonsági hivatal épületébe pénteken.
A 42 éves Clenard Parker – egy hivatásos sofőr – Brenham városában egy nappal azt követően követte el a támadást, hogy a hivatalban elutasították teherautó-vezetői jogosítványának kiadását.
A férfi helyi idő szerint péntek délelőtt ellopott egy szállítmánnyal megrakott nagy méretű, 18 kerekű félpótkocsis kamiont, és nekivezette az épületnek. A helyszíni felvételek azt mutatták, hogy az épület komolyan megsérült, valamint a kamion vezetőfülkéje is roncsolódott.
A támadás halálos áldozata a kórházban hunyt el, rajta kívül 13 sérültről számoltak be a helyi hatóságok.

A tűzvész hétfőn kezdődött a Smokehouse Creek közelében, és azóta mintegy 4400 négyzetkilométernyi területet érintett Texas északnyugati részén, részben átterjedt a szomszédos Oklahoma államra is.
Az oltás körülményei a hétvégére romlottak az erős, helyenként óránkénti 70 kilométeres sebességű szél miatt, amely magas, 20 fok feletti napi hőmérséklettel, valamint a levegő rendkívül alacsony, 10 százalékot sem elérő páratartalmával párosul.
Meteorológusok szerint a fenti tényezők újabb tűzgócok kialakulásának kedveznek.
A tűznek eddig két halálos áldozata van, és mintegy 500 épület, részben lakóház semmisült meg, valamint számos haszonállat is elpusztult.
Több jármű is a tűz martalékává vált.
A hét közepén átmenetileg segítette a tűzoltók munkáját, hogy eső és hó is esett, aminek nyomán a lángok egy részét ellenőrzés alá tudták vonni.Pénteki adatok szerint ugyanakkor a természeti katasztrófa által érintett terület csupán 15 százalékán tudták körülhatárolni a tűzgócokat. Ez az állam történetének legnagyobb tűzvésze.

Greg Abbott texasi kormányzó keddi közleményében a katasztrófahelyzet kihirdetését azzal magyarázta, hogy az lehetővé teszi a szükséges források felszabadítását a tűz pusztítása által érintett térségben. A kormányzó arra kérte a lakosságot, hogy ne végezzen olyan tevékenységet, ami újabb tüzeket okozhatna, és ügyeljen hozzátartozói biztonságára.
„Az Amarillótól 34 kilométerre lévő Pantex Plant működése az újabb értesítésig leállt. Az összes fegyver és speciális anyag biztonságban van” – közölték a gyár illetékesei az X közösségi médián.
Az amarillói országos meteorológiai szolgálat műholdfelvételei alapján a szokatlan meleg és az erős szelek szította tűz már Amarillo környékén pusztít. A hatóságok felszólították a lakosságot, hogy maradjanak zárt helyen, mert a füst miatt a levegő minősége nagyon rossz.
A texasi A&M erdészeti szolgálat 31 tűzről számolt be az államban.
A legnagyobb a Smokehouse Creek környékén mintegy 3 ezer négyzetkilométeren pusztító tűz, amelyet kedd éjszakáig még nem tudtak megfékezni.
Médiajelentések szerint 24 óra leforgása alatt több mint 780 négyzetkilométernyi területet égettek fel a lángok, és a tűz gyorsan terjed. A texasi-oklahomai határon, Amarillótól 160 kilométerre északkeletre fekvő Canadian település különösen nagy veszélyben van.

Texasban szolgálaton kívüli rendőrök lőttek le egy nőt, aki a vasárnapi istentisztelet kezdetén egy templomban tüzet nyitott a hívekre, egy kisgyerek súlyosan megsebesült – közölték a hatóságok Houstonban.
Troy Finner, a texasi nagyváros rendőrfőnöke sajtótájékoztatóján elmondta, hogy kora délután a spanyol nyelvű istentiszteleten egy közismert templomban, a Lakewood Church-ben történt az incidens. A körülményekről annyi hangzott el, hogy a nővel, aki egy puskából tüzet nyitott, egy 4-5 éves kisgyerek érkezett.
A templomban jelen lévő szolgálaton kívüli rendőrök viszonozták a lövéseket, és a támadót halálosan megsebesítették. A lövöldözés során a nővel jött gyermek megsebesült, és válságos állapotban kórházban ápolják.
Egy idősebb férfi a lábán sebesült meg.
A tájékoztatón elhangzott, hogy a nő azt kiabálta a lövöldözés közben, hogy bomba is van nála, de a hatóságok nem találtak robbanóeszközt sem a támadó hátizsákjában, sem autójában. A lövöldözés indítékát egyelőre nem közölték. Az incidens helyszíne, a Lakewood templom lelkipásztora a jól ismert egyházi személyiség Joel Osteen, televíziós evangelista és üzletember.

A férfira már az esemény előtt hetekkel felfigyeltek, mert a Tesla emberei kaptak egy figyelmeztetést, hogy egy férfi – akit később Overeemként azonosítottak – egy Instagram-csoport csevegésben tömeges lövöldözésről beszélt – közölte a rendőrség. „Úgy tűnik, Overeem gyűlölte a modern technológiát”, és az NBC által látott rendőrségi elfogatóparacs szerint kijlelentette, hogy „a gondolatai már több mint egy éve nem szabadok, mert körbeveszi a technológia”. Az nem derült ki, hogy a Tesla vezetője, Elon Musk is a célpontja volt-e a férfinak.
A Cybertruck bemutatója előtti napon egy kamera rögzítette Overeem floridai rendszámú járművét Austinban. Végül egy McDonald’snél megállították és letartóztatták, alig néhány kilométerre attól a helytől, ahol a Cybertruck rendezvényét is tartották.
Elon Musk egyelőre nem nyilatkozott semmit a tervezett fegyveres támadás kapcsán.
