November 18-a óta az Egyesült Államok keleti partvidékének különböző területein drónokat észleltek, azonban a hatóságok egyelőre nem tudtak választ adni a titokzatos, pilóta nélküli repülőgépek jelenlétére, ami a lakosság körében egyre nagyobb félelmet kelt. Sokan válaszokat követeltek a helyi és állami tisztviselőktől.
A Szövetségi Légügyi Hivatal (FAA) erre reagálva csütörtökön közölte, hogy „a szövetségi biztonsági partnerek kérésére az FAA 22 ideiglenes repülési korlátozást vezetett be, amelyek tiltják a drónok jelenlétét New Jersey kritikus infrastruktúrája felett” – számolt be az ABC News.
Az ideiglenes repülési korlátozások január 17-ig tartanak New Jersey-ben az alábbi helyszíneken: Hamilton, Bridgewater, Cedar Grove, North Brunswick, Metuchen, Evesham, Camden, Gloucester City, Westampton, South Brunswick, Edison, Branchburg, Sewaren, Jersey City, Harrison, Elizabeth, Bayonne, Winslow, Burlington, Clifton, Hancocks Bridge és Kearny.

New York is lépett New Jersey példáját követve csütörtök este Kathy Hochul, New York kormányzója is bejelentette, hogy a szövetségi partnerek és az FAA ideiglenes repülési korlátozásokat rendel el az állam egyes kritikus infrastrukturális létesítményei felett. Hochul azt mondta, hogy az intézkedés „pusztán elővigyázatosságból” történik, és hogy „semmilyen veszély nem fenyegeti ezeket a helyszíneket”.
Az ideiglenes repülési korlátozások New Yorkban január 18-ig tartanak, és az érintett területek között van a LaGuardia repülőtér, Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Garden City, Far Rockaway és Ridge.
A korábban kiadott ideiglenes repülési korlátozások New Jersey államban továbbra is érvényben maradnak. A kormány le is lőheti a drónokat, ha azok „közvetlen biztonsági fenyegetést” jelentenek – közölték a hatóságok.
Azokat a pilótákat, akik nem tartják be ezeket a korlátozásokat, „a bűnüldöző/biztonsági szervek elfoghatják, őrizetbe vehetik és kihallgathatják”. Az FAA közölte, hogy polgári jogi bírságokat is kiszabhatnak, valamint felfüggeszthetik azon üzemeltetők tanúsítványát, akik megszegik a tiltást.
Az FBI és a Fehér Ház annak ellenére nyugalomra inti a lakosságot, hogy nem tudnak tájékoztatást adni a drónok hátteréről. Egyes képviselők már Iránt és Kínát látják az akció mögött. New Jersey-ben többen is fegyvert ragadtak már, amint megláttak egy azonosítatlan repülő tárgyat. A hatóságok szerint ugyanakkor ezek többsége egyszerű kereskedelmi gép, amelyekben emberek is ülnek, így komoly veszélybe kerülhetnek.

korábbi felhívását a kongresszushoz: arra sürgette a
