Tizenhárom bányászt találtak holtan egy perui aranybányában, miután néhány nappal korábban elrabolták őket – közölte a helyi sajtó és a hatóságok.
Az áldozatok a Poderosa bányavállalat alkalmazottai voltak, amely Peru északi részén, a Pataz tartományban működteti az egyik legnagyobb aranybányáját. Peru a világ egyik legnagyobb aranytermelője: évente több mint 100 tonna aranyat termel ki, ami a globális aranykínálat körülbelül 4%-át jelenti. A növekvő aranyárak és a gyenge állami ellenőrzés miatt azonban az illegális bányászat és a hozzá kapcsolódó erőszak egyre súlyosabb problémát jelent az ország számára – közölte a BBC.
A bányászokat egy illegális bányászattal foglalkozó szervezet ellen küldték ki, hogy fellépjenek a térségben tapasztalható jogellenes tevékenységek ellen, azonban egy fegyveres bűnbanda elrabolta őket, majd napokon át túszként tartották fogva őket egy bányaaknában.
A túszejtők fenyegető üzeneteket küldtek az áldozatok családtagjaiknak, mielőtt kivégezték volna őket.
A perui Diario Correo hírportál szerint egy közösségi médiában terjedő videó, amelyet feltehetően maguk az elkövetők készítettek, a kivégzés pillanatait is rögzítette. A felvételen látható, ahogy az áldozatokat közvetlen közelről lőtték le. A mészárlás indítékai egyelőre ismeretlenek.
A Poderosa vállalat közleményében csalódottságát fejezte ki, amiért a rendőrség és a hadsereg nem képes megfékezni az illegális bányászatot és a szervezett bűnözést a térségben. Mint írták, „a régióban tovább fokozódik az erőszak légköre”, az állam pedig nem tudja garantálni sem az alkalmazottak, sem a bányászok biztonságát.
A cég adatai szerint 2020 óta több bányájukat is elfoglalták bűnbandák, amelyekben robbantásos támadásokat is végrehajtottak, például márciusban, amikor felrobbantottak egy nagyfeszültségű tornyot, amely az aranybányákat látta el árammal. Ugyanebben a hónapban a bűnözők két embert is megöltek a Pataz kerületben, miközben megpróbáltak behatolni a vállalat működő bányaterületeire.
A vállalat szerint az illegális bányászat és az ahhoz kapcsolódó szervezett bűnözés „teljes büntetlenség” mellett tevékenykedhet az országban.
