Agyonlőttek két újságírót Haitin, akik az erőszakról tudósítottak a főváros, Port-au-Prince egyik bandák kezére jutott nyomornegyedéből, holttesteiket pedig felgyújtották – közölte kedden a helyi Független Újságírók Szövetsége, hozzátéve, hogy idén ez már a második ilyen eset.
A tájékoztatás szerint Tayson Latigue és Frantzsen Charles egy hétfős újságírói csoporttal volt, amikor tűz alá vették őket vasárnap a Cité Soleil nevű kerületben, ahol éppen az erőszakhullám súlyosbodását – többek között egy 17 éves lány nemrég történt meggyilkolásának körülményeit – vizsgálták.
Dieudonne St-Cyr, az újságírószövetség egyik tagja a Metropole Haiti helyi rádiónak elmondta, hogy az újságírók két rivális banda kereszttüzébe kerültek. Hozzátette, hogy társaik sértetlenül el tudtak menekülni, de a két áldozat holttestét nem tudták visszaszerezni.
Az újságírószövetség utálatos, hitvány cselekedetnek nyilvánította a történteket, és követelte, hogy a kormány javítson az egyre romló biztonsági helyzeten az egyre gyakoribbá váló gyilkosságok és emberrablások közepette. Leszögezte egyben, hogy az újságírók csak a munkájukat végezték, és nem követtek el semmiféle bűncselekményt.
A szervezet hangsúlyozta, hogy „a gyilkosságok újabb bizonyítékai annak, hogy az állam képtelen megvédeni az életeket és a magántulajdont, ami nem más, mint az emberi jogok megsértése”.
Ariel Henry miniszterelnök szintén elítélte a „barbár” gyilkosságokat, amelyek mélységesen megdöbbentették – fogalmazott.
Januárban két újságírót öltek meg bandák, akik a déli – szintén problémás – Laboule negyedből tudósítottak.
Haitin valóságos bandaháborúk dúlnak, számos térség pedig már kikerült a központi kormány ellenőrzése alól. Az erőszakhullám emberek százainak életét követelte, és ezrek voltak kénytelen elmenekülni otthonaikból. A bandák azt követően erősödtek meg, hogy Jovenel Moise elnök merénylet áldozata lett 2021 júliusában.
