Felborult és felrobbant egy üzemanyagot szállító teherautó Uganda fővárosának közelében, a balesetben a rendőrség szerdai közlése szerint legkevesebb tizenöt ember, köztük két gyermek életét vesztette.
A szerencsétlenség még kedden történt. „Az áldozatok a felismerhetetlenségig megégtek” – írták a rendőrségi közleményben.
Egy szemtanú által készített videófelvételen a felborult teherautóhoz siető emberek láthatók, amint üzemanyagot próbálnak gyűjteni még a robbanás előtt.
„Ez a tragikus esemény figyelmeztetésként szolgál az üzemanyag-szállító járművek baleseteivel kapcsolatos veszélyekre, és arra is rámutat, hogy a veszélyes anyagok kezelésének terén körültekintően kell eljárni” – mutatott rá a rendőrségi szóvivő.
Hasonló tragédia történt Nigériában is a múlt héten, abban több mint 140 ember halt meg, köztük gyerekek. 2019-ben 62 ember vesztette életét Tanzániában, miközben egy megsérült teherautóból csövekkel próbálták kiszívni az üzemanyagot; 2015-ben pedig legalább 183 ember halt meg Dél-Szudánban, ahol egy faluban több száz helybéli gyűlt össze egy tartálykocsi körül, amely felrobbant.

A kórházban belehalt égési sérüléseibe Rebecca Cheptegei volt élettársa, akit azzal gyanúsítottak, hogy benzinnel leöntötte és felgyújtotta az olimpikont. A kenyai Eldoretben lévő kórház szóvivője a Reutersnek azt mondta, hogy Dickson Ndiema Marangach hétfőn este 19:50-kor halt bele égési sérüléseibe.
A férfit azzal vádolták, hogy szeptember 1-jén benzinnel leöntötte és felgyújtotta a 33 éves Cheptegeit, amikor hazatért két gyerekével a templomból. A futónő testének nyolcvan százaléka megégett, a kórház intenzív osztályán kezelték, de négy nappal a támadás után belehalt sérüléseibe. Volt barátját, és egyben támadóját is ugyanott kezelték, a férfi testének 30 százaléka égett meg.
Rebecca Cheptegei 2010-ben kezdett versenyezni, hosszú távokra, félmaratonra, maratonra specializálódott, de indult terepversenyeken is. 2022-ben ő lett az első hegyifutó-világbajnokság női győztese is. Több városi maratonon, például Padovában és Firenzében tudott dobogóra állni, az idei olimpián a 44. lett ezen a távon, tavaly pedig a budapesti vb-n futva a 14. lett.
Cheptegei a harmadik élsportoló, akit 2021 októbere óta megöltek Kenyában. Halála reflektorfénybe helyezte a családon belüli erőszakot a kelet-afrikai országban, különösen a futóközösségen belül.

Négy nappal azután, hogy a barátja benzinnel leöntötte és felgyújtotta, elhunyt Rebecca Cheptegei ugandai olimpikon maratonfutó – jelentette be csütörtökön a helyi olimpiai bizottság (UGA).
„Tudomásunkra jutott, hogy atlétánk elhunyt barátja erőszakos támadása után” – írta közösségi oldalán Donald Rukare, az UGA elnöke.
Cheptegeit még vasárnap, kenyai otthonukban támadta meg Dickson Ndiema, mivel éles vitába keveredtek azon a telken, amelyen Cheptegei háza áll. Az elmúlt hetek szakadó esőzései után a város egyetlen szeméttelepéről pénteken késő este egy hatalmas szeméttömeg omlott le, maga alá temetve és összezúzva és a telep szélén lévő házakat, az alvó lakókkal együtt.
Szombaton a kampalai közigazgatási hivatal még nyolcra tette a halottak számát.
„A legfrissebb információink szerint 13 halott van, de a mentési munkálatok folytatódnak” – mondta vasárnap Patrick Onyango rendőrségi szóvivő.
Eddig legalább 14 embert mentettek ki – tudatta, hozzátéve, hogy még többen a törmelék alatt rekedhettek, számuk azonban nem ismert.
A közelben sátrakat állítottak fel a földcsuszamlás miatt kitelepítettek számára – közölte az ugandai vöröskereszt.
A Kiteezi néven ismert szeméttelep évtizedek óta Kampala egyetlen szemétlerakójaként szolgál, és egy nagy dombbá nőtte ki magát. A lakosok régóta panaszkodnak, hogy a hulladékhegy szennyezi a környezetet és veszélyt jelent rájuk nézve. A főváros illetékes hatóságai évek óta igyekeznek új szemétlerakó helyet kijelölni, de eredménytelenül.

A támadásról szóló jelentést az ugandai hadsereg helyettes szóvivője is megerősítette.

Ugandában felborult egy hajó a Viktória-tavon szerdán, legkevesebben húszan életüket vesztették – közölte a helyi rendőrség.
A baleset a kora reggel történt az északi part közelében, egy szigetnél, miután az élelmiszerrel és szénnel megrakott, túlterhelt hajó feltehetően viharba került. A hajón 34 tartózkodtak, kilenc embert ki tudtak menteni a vízből .
Az Afrika legnagyobb tavaként számon tartott, három kelet-afrikai ország – Kenya, Tanzánia és Uganda – határán fekvő Viktória-tavon gyakoriak a hajóbalesetek, melyek leginkább hajók általánosan rossz állapota, túlterhelése és a rossz időjárás számlájára írhatók.

A Freedom City Mallban, ahol rendszeresen tartanak koncerteket és újévi ünnepséget, legkevesebb kilenc embert, köztük gyerekeket tapostak halálra, amikor a rendezvény műsorvezetőjének felszólítására a tömeg egyszerre tódult ki, hogy megnézze az újévi tűzijátékot – mondta a kampalai rendőrség szóvivőhelyettese.
A hatóságok közleménye szerint a területileg illetékes rendőrség erőszakos viselkedés és a rendezők gondatlansága miatt bekövetkezett halálesetek ügyében rendelt el vizsgálatot Egyelőre senkit nem vettek őrizetbe az ügyben.
A rendőri jelentés szerint öten még a helyszínen lelték halálukat, négyen pedig a kórházba szállításuk után haltak bele súlyos sérüléseikbe. További sérültekről nem tájékoztattak.
Az áldozatok holttestét Kampala Mulago városrészének halottasházába szállították.

A vadállat a vízparton játszó gyereknek rontott, bekapta és megpróbálta lenyelni, ám egy szemfüles helybéli kövekkel dobálta meg az állatot, aminek hatására az elengedte a rémült gyereket. A fiút kórházba szállították, nem szenvedett életveszélyes sérüléseket.
Víziló próbált lenyelni egy kétéves kisfiút Ugandában, de néhány másodperccel később elengedte, miután egy szemtanú kövekkel dobálta meg – írja a Capital FM Uganda.
A hírlap tájékoztatása szerint a kisfiú egyedül játszott egy tó partján Katwe Kabatoro városában vasárnap, amikor rátámadt a víziló. A gyerek már a víziló szájában volt, amikor egy gyors észjárású járókelő kövekkel kezdte el dobálni a több száz kilós állatot.
„A férfi kövekkel támadta meg a vízilovat, ezzel megijesztve. A dobálás hatására az állat elengedte az áldozatot” – közölte az ugandai rendőrség.
A kisfiút stabil állapotban szállították egy közeli kórházba, ahol ellátták a sérüléseit.
Becslések szerint a vízilovak évente legalább ötszáz embert ölnek meg Afrikában.

Szeptember 20-án jelentették az első esetet, eddig 19 halálos áldozatról tudni az afrikai országban.
Ugandában az ebolajárvány miatt éjszakai kijárási tilalmat és a fertőzés gócpontjának számító, központi fekvésű Mubende és Kassanda körzetre vonatkozó zárlatot rendeltek el – jelentette be szombaton Yoweri Museveni ugandai elnök.
Mindemellett a fertőzés terjedésének megfékezésére bezárják az ima- és szórakozóhelyeket. Az intézkedések haladéktalanul életbe lépnek és egyelőre 21 napig lesznek hatályban.
Az ugandai hatóságok szeptember 20-án jelentették be az ebola megjelenését, akkor egy 24 éves férfinál mutatták ki a fertőzést, mégpedig a vírus ritka szudáni variánsát. Az első áldozat az ország középső részén található Mubende régióban élt.
Museveni szerint eddig 19 halálos áldozatot követelt a kór.
Ugandában korábban már több alkalommal tört ki ebolajárvány, 2000-ben több száz ember halt bele a vérzéses lázzal járó betegségbe, amelyet vírusfertőzés okoz. Átlagosan a fertőzöttek mintegy fele hal meg a betegség következtében.

Az Ugandai Egészségügyi Minisztérium hivatalos képviselőjének beszámolója szerint az országban 11-re emelkedett az ebolajárványban meghaltak száma, és további 11 ebolagyanús esetet kezelnek kórházban.
Az ugandai hatóságok szeptember 20-án jelentették be az ebola megjelenését, akkor egy 24 éves férfinál mutatták ki a vérzéssel járó betegséget, amit vírusfertőzés okoz.
Átlagosan a fertőzöttek mintegy a fele hal bele a betegségbe. Az első elhunyt férfi az ország középső részén található Mubende régióban élt.
A betegség kimutatása után a hatóságok 58 személyt azonosítottak, akik kapcsolatba kerültek a fertőzöttel. Négyen közülük azonban megszöktek, őket most körözik.
Az Ugandával szomszédos Kenyában és Tanzániában megszigorították az egészségügyi ellenőrzéseket a határokon az ebolavírus terjedésének megakadályozása érdekében.
Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) afrikai részlege azt közölte, hogy a haláleseteket az ebolavírus viszonylag ritkábban előforduló szudáni változata okozta, amit először 1976-ban mutattak ki.
Ugandában korábban már több alkalommal volt ebolajárvány, 2000-ben több száz ember halt bele.
