Legkevesebb három ember meghalt, tizennégy másik pedig megsebesült egy lövöldözésben az Egyesült Államok déli részén fekvő Új-Mexikó állam második legnépesebb városában, Las Crucesben egy parkban – közölte szombaton a rendőrség.
Az áldozatokat három helyi kórházba, illetve az El Pasó-i egyetemi klinikára szállították. A helyi idő szerint péntek este tíz órakor a Young Park nevű rendezvényhelyszínen történt lövöldözésben két 19 éves férfi és egy 16 éves fiú halt meg. Az áldozatok és sérültek személyazonosságáról nem tettek közzé információkat, csupán annyit, hogy 16 és 36 év közöttiek az érintettek. A Fox13 információi szerint a lövöldözés egy nem jóváhagyott autós eseményen történt, két csoport került összetűzésbe, majd fegyvert rántottak. Arról egyelőre nem osztottak meg információkat, kik és miért lövöldözhettek, azt viszont igen, hogy egyelőre nem történt letartóztatás, nyomoznak az elkövetők után.
Las Cruces a Chihuahuan-sivatag szélén fekszik, a Rio Grande folyó partján, mintegy 41 kilométerre az amerikai-mexikói határtól.

Súlyos esőzések következtében villámáradások miatt rendelték el a kötelező kitelepítést Új-Mexikó állam egyes településein szombatig. Ez a döntés néhány nappal azután született, hogy az államban erdőtüzek miatt kellett tömeges kitelepítést elrendelni.
Az amerikai szövetségi meteorológiai szolgálat hirtelen lehulló nagy mennyiségű csapadék miatt adott ki figyelmeztetést szombatra is, miután péntek estig már 50 milliméter eső esett. Az áradások az állam északi részén fekvő kisebb városokat érintették leginkább, a főváros Albuquerque közelében. Las Vegasban a helyi hatóságok átmeneti szállásokat nyitottak a kötelező kitelepítésben érintetteknek.
Új-Mexikó államban a hét közepén erdő- és bozóttüzek követeltek két halálos áldozatot. A lángok 1300 épületben tettek kárt, és több ezer embernek kellett biztonságos helyre menekülnie.

A Lincoln megyei Ruidoso környékén, egy turisták körében is kedvelt törzsi területen terjedő tűz miatt mintegy 7800 embernek kellett elmenekülnie otthonából.
A South Fork Fire néven emlegetett erdőtűz hétfőn keletkezett a mescalero apacs törzs területén, és kiterjedése egy éjszaka alatt csaknem megháromszorozódott, a másik, Salt Fire nevű erdőtűz pedig Ruidosótól délre terjedt. A két tűz már mintegy 80 négyzetkilométer területet égetett fel, és egyelőre nem sikerült megfékezni.
Michelle Lujan Grisham új-mexikói kormányzó ígéretet tett arra, hogy minden rendelkezésre álló erőforrást bevetnek a tüzek eloltására.
A kormányzó hivatalának közlése szerint a természeti katasztrófának eddig egy halálos áldozata van.
A lángok mintegy 500 épületet, többnyire lakóházakat emésztettek fel – mondta el az új-mexikói erdészeti hivatal illetékese, aki a száraz és szeles időjárással magyarázta a tűz gyors terjedését. Mint hozzáfűzte: az államban nem ritkák az erdőtüzek, és az előrejelzések alapján nem, számítanak rendkívüli évre.
A tűz miatt a falutól délre húzódó 70-es számú főútvonalat részben lezárták, és a telefonszolgáltatás is akadozott. Az evakuált lakosságot a környékbeli településeken helyezték el.
Közben Kaliforniában, Los Angelestől északra egy újabb erdőtűzzel harcolnak a tűzoltók, amely már több mint 15 ezer hektárt égetett fel, és amely miatt több száz embert evakuáltak. Kedden estére ennek a tűznek a 31 százalékát sikerült megfékezni.
Hatósági adatok szerint az Egyesült Államokban jelenleg 29 nagyobb erdőtűz tombol, közülük 10 a nyugati parti Kaliforniában.
Az Egyesült Államok a nyári szezon első nagy hőhullámával küzd. Kedden már több mint 70 millió amerikait, vagyis az országban minden ötödik embert érintett a hőségriasztás. Néhány városban, köztük Chicagóban, rekordhőmérsékletet mértek az évnek ehhez az időszakához viszonyítva.

Az incidens szombaton, helyi idő szerint délután 5 óra körül történt, a 41. alkalommal megrendezésre került Red River Memorial Motorcycle Rally-n, ahol feltehetőleg 28 ezer ember volt jelen – írta a New York Post.
A polgármester, Linda Calhoun megerősítette, hogy a történtekért két rivális banda a felelős, bár azt nem árulta el, melyekről van szó, azt azonban közölte, hogy az elkövetőket nem sokkal később elfogták és őrizetbe vették.
A sebesülteket azóta ellátásban részesítették, sajnos azonban három áldozaton már nem tudtak segíteni, a polgármester pedig azt is elmondta, hogy egyikük sem volt helyi lakos, bár azt nem tette hozzá, honnan érkezhettek.
Továbbá a hatóságok azzal a kéréssel fordultak a lövöldözés környékén található helyi üzletek tulajdonosaihoz, hogy vasárnap ne nyissanak ki, ugyanis a nyomozás jelenleg is folyamatban van.

Az Új-Mexikó északi részén a szárazság okozta erdőtűz szombaton 100 000 hektáros, azaz 157 négyzetmérföldes „megatűzzé” vált, és még mindig több mint kétszeresére nőhet a mérete egy helyi tűzoltó szerint – írja a Reuters.
A kiszáradt hegyi erdőkben tomboló erős szélviharok által táplált Calf Canyon-tűz messze a legnagyobb és legpusztítóbb jelenleg az Egyesült Államokban.
A tűz martalékává vált terület nagysága 24 óra alatt mintegy felével nőtt, amikor péntek este egy óriási lángoszlop „összeomlott”, amelynek parazsai újabb tüzeket okoztak. Las Vegas lakói arra ébredtek, hogy amerikai negyeddolláros érmék nagyságú elszenesedett fadarabok borítják a várost.

A hőlégballonhoz szerelt kosár az ütközés következtében zuhanni kezdett, a balesetben pedig öt ember életét vesztette.
Öt ember meghalt, miután egy hőlégballon szombaton nekiütközött egy elektromos vezetéknek Új-Mexikó legnagyobb városában. A baleset reggel 7 óra körül történt Albuquerque nyugati oldalán, melynek következtében 13 ezer ember maradt áram nélkül.
A hőlégballonról levált kosár 30 méteres magasságból zuhant egy forgalmas út közepére, majd felgyulladt, a léggömb felső része egy háztetőn landolt – számolt be a Tények az NBC News értesülései alapján.
A hatóságok szerint három férfi, köztük a pilóta és két nő vesztette életét a balesetben, négyen már a helyszínen életüket vesztették, míg az ötödik személy a kórházban hunyt el. A Szövetségi Légi Irányítás szerint az erős szél sodorhatta a hőlégballont a villanyvezetékek felé, alapvetően ugyanis nem könnyű a ballon irányítása, masszív szakértelemre van szükség a vezetéséhez.
Joshua Perez a környéken volt, amikor észlelte a balesetet, így egy másik férfival azonnal a helyszínre sietett, és segített kikapcsolni a propántartályt. Perez a KOB4 Newsnak elmondta, hogy a kosárban lévő emberek már nem mozogtak. Az Egyesült Államok leghalálosabb hőlégballonos balesete 2016-ban történt Texasban, amelynek során 16 ember vesztette életét.
