Az Egyesült Államok 5. flottája, amelynek része a Mason romboló, nem erősítette meg a támadást – jelentette a Times of Israel.
Jahja Szarií, a húszik katonai szóvivője tegnap jelentette be, hogy rakétákkal támadták meg az USS Mason nevű amerikai rombolót és egy Destiny kereskedelmi hajót. A Destiny nevet több hajó is viseli a nyilvántartásokban.
Az Egyesült Államok 5. flottája, a régió vizeinek védelmével van megbízva, egyelőre nem válaszolt az esettel kapcsolatos kommentárkérésekre.
Az USS Mason egy Arleigh Burke-osztályú rakétás romboló; az Egyesült Államok által vezetett koalíció tagjaként dolgozik a Vörös-tengeren. Célja a húszik kereskedelmi hajóforgalom elleni támadásainak megakadályozása.
A húszik azt állítják, hogy támadásaikkal Izraelt akarják nyomás alá helyezni, hogy állítsa le a Hamász ellen folytatott háborút. Az amerikai tengerészeti hivatal információi szerint november óta a húszik több mint 50 támadást indítottak hajók ellen, egyet elfoglaltak és egy másikat elsüllyesztettek.
