Az amerikai Külügyminisztérium intézkedése a kiberbűnözés elleni szélesebb körű küzdelem része, mivel Washington azzal vádolja Oroszországot, hogy „menedéket” nyújt a kiberbűnözőknek. Az USA úgy véli, hogy Oroszország laza megközelítése a kiberbűnözők üldözése terén lehetővé teszi, hogy az USA és szövetségesei elleni kibertámadások büntetlenül maradjanak.

Októberben a Killnet nevű orosz hackerkollektíva több amerikai állam kormányzati weboldalait vette célba, megszakításokat okozva Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Alaszka, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky és Mississippi államokban.

Oroszország tagadja, hogy vérdíjjal jutalmazta volna a nyugati katonákat meggyilkoló afgánokat – írja a BBC.



A New York Times értesülései szerint miközben folynak a béketárgyalások, egy orosz katonai hírszerző egység titokban fejpénzt ajánlott a tálib kötődésű afgán fegyvereseknek a koalíciós erők, köztük amerikai katonák megöléséért Afganisztánban.



Az amerikai orosz nagykövetség és a tálibok tagadják a vádakat, a követség szerint a hírek ahhoz vezettek, hogy a diplomatáik fenyegető üzeneteket kaptak. A New York Times szerint a hírszerzés Donald Trumpot már márciusban értesítette, de a Fehér Ház ezt tagadja. Az orosz követség szerint a lap álhíreket terjeszt.



2019-ben 20 amerikai katona halt meg Afganisztánban, de az NYT szerint nem tudni, melyik halálesetért fizethettek az oroszok. A cikkben megszólaló tisztviselő szerint a Fehér Ház nemzetbiztonsági tanácsa még nem döntött, hogy reagál a hírre, de az Oroszország elleni szankciók súlyosbítása is felmerült.



A tálibok szóvivője szerint a vád alaptalan, mert a célzott gyilkosságokat már évekkel korábban elkezdték, és mindegyiket a saját erőforrásaik felhasználásával hajtották végre. A szóvivő szerint február óta nem hajtottak végre ilyen akciót, mert az USA és a NATO beleegyezett, hogy kivonják a katonáikat.



A cikk szerint az a GRU-csapat fizethetett a gyilkosságokért, amelyik 2018-ban az Egyesült Királyságban megpróbálta idegméreggel megölni Szergej Szripal orosz kettős ügynököt és lányát.
