Szándékosan lőtt tanárára a hatéves diák múlt pénteken egy tanórán Virginiában – közölt részleteket a Virginia állambeli Newport News rendőrfőnöke az esetről.
Steve Drew elmondta, nem véletlen balesetről van szó, hanem az első osztályos diák a tanórán egy hátizsákból vette elő a fegyvert, majd rálőtt a tanárára.
A tanárnőt, Abby Zwernert kórházban ápolják, állapota stabil, a gyerekek közül senki nem sérült meg.
A rendőrségi tájékoztatás szerint a fegyvert legálisan vásárolta a kisdiák édesanyja és tartotta otthonukban, ahonnan a gyerek bevitte az iskolába. Az is elhangzott, hogy a gyereket fizikai erővel kellett megfékeznie egy iskolai alkalmazottnak, majd a rendőrség őrizetbe vette.
Az eset közvetlen előzményeiről a nyomozás érdekében a hatóság nem adott tájékoztatást. Arról sem adtak információt, hogy a hatéves tettest jelenleg hol tartják.
A rendőrség korábban arról tájékoztatott, hogy az életkora miatt a bíróság nem kezeltheti felnőttként, és, ha elítélik, még ahhoz is túl kicsi, hogy fiatalkorúak börtönében, javítóintézetben töltse le a büntetést.
Az iskola vezetője közölte, hogy az intézmény, a Richneck Általános Iskola egész héten zárva tart.
A tanárnő felépüléséért hétfő este gyertyás virrasztást tartottak.

Abby Zwerner életveszélyes sérüléseket szenvedett, amikor pénteken rálőtt egy kisgyerek Newport News városában, a Richneck általános iskolában. A hatóságok szerint már javul a tanárnő állapota.
A település polgármestere, Phillip Jones a BBC-nek azt mondta, a tanárnő felépülése „pozitív irányba mutat”, vagyis Abby Zwerner már valamivel jobban van, de az állapota még mindig kritikus.

Az egyik szülő, Steve Gonzalez, akinek gyermeke a lövöldözés idején az osztályteremben tartózkodott, a Fox Newsnak azt mondta, hogy a tanárnőnek, miután eltalálta a golyó, volt annyi lélekjelenléte, hogy üvöltsön a gyerekeknek, fussanak.
A polgármester – aki mindössze öt napja lépett hivatalba – elmondta, hogy a rendőrség továbbra is vizsgálja a lövöldözés körülményeit. „Nincs meg minden válaszunk arra, hogy egy hatéves gyermek hogyan tudta kezelni a lőfegyvert, vagy hogyan juthatott hozzá” – mondta, hozzátéve, hogy ez egy sötét nap a város történelmében.
A virginiai törvények értelmében, hatéveseket nem lehet bíróság elé állítani, és a gyermek ahhoz is kicsi, hogy a fiatalkorúak fogdájába kerüljön, ha bűnösnek találják. Ahhoz van joga a bíróságnak, hogy indokolt esetben állami felügyelet alá helyezze a kisfiút.
George Parker iskolai kerületi főfelügyelő szombaton azt mondta, hogy a lövöldözés megmutatta, hogy „nevelnünk kell a gyermekeinket, és biztonságban kell tartanunk őket”.
„Szükségünk van a közösség folyamatos támogatására annak érdekében, hogy a fegyverek ne legyenek elérhetőek a fiatalok számára, bár ez ma már úgy hangzik, mint egy beakadt lemez, mert folyamatosan ezt ismétlem: távol kell tartanunk a fegyvereket a gyerekeinktől” – tette hozzá.

A lövés akkor dördült el, amikor a gyerek és a harmincéves tanárnő egyedül voltak egy osztályteremben. A tanárnőt életveszélyes sérüléssel kórházban ápolják, az állapota javul.
Egyelőre még nem tudni az indítékot, illetve azt sem, hogyan került egy hatéves gyerek birtokába egy lőfegyver. A rendőrség megállapította, hogy a gyerek szándékosan lőtt, nem baleset történt.
Az iskolában még korábban felszereltek fémdetektoros beléptetőkapukat, de az eset idején nem voltak bekapcsolva.

Több halálos áldozata van egy kedd esti lövöldözésnek Virgina állam egyik bevásárlóközpontjánál – közölte a rendőrség kedden éjszaka. Chesapeake város rendőrségi szóvivője annyit mondott, hogy vélhetően a gyanúsított is a halottak között van. Leo Kosinski azt is hozzátette, hogy a feltételezés szerint a tettes egyedül volt.
Az incidensről szóló bejelentés kevéssel este 10 óra után érkezett a rendőrséghez, amely nagy erőkkel vonult ki az üzletközpont hipermarketjéhez. Az áldozatok pontos számáról, és a körülményekről az első tájékoztatásban a rendőrség nem tudott beszámolni.
