Az AFP információi szerint legalább 15 ember életét vesztette, és tucatnyian megsérültek a fesztiválon kitört tömegpánikban. A hathetes hindu fesztiválra érkezett több tízmillió hívő szerdán hajnalban Prajagradzsban a három szent folyó – a Gangesz, a Dzsamúna és a Szaraszvati – találkozásánál akart megmártózni, amikor az összezsúfolódott emberek között tisztázatlan okok miatt kitört a tömegpánik.
A rend helyreállítására a hatóságok a gyors reagálású különleges egységet (RAF) is bevetették. A tömegoszlatás után készült videókon és fényképeken látható, amint hordágyakon viszik el a holttesteket.
Narendra Modi miniszterelnök együttérzését fejezte ki az áldozatok családjainak. Modi az incidenst követően beszélt Jogi Aditjanath Uttar Prades-i kormányfővel, és „utasításokat adott a helyzet normalizálására” – jelentette az ANI indiai hírügynökség.

Felborult egy zarándokokat búcsúba szállító autóbusz vasárnap Ternopil megyében, a baleset idején a járműben mint 40 ember tartózkodott – számolt be az rbc.ua hírportál a Ternopil megyei rendőrségre és a suspilne.media kiadványra hivatkozva.
A rendőrségi közlemény szerint „a bejelentés a közúti balesetről a 102-es vonalon érkezett július 14-én reggel 8 óra körül. A baleset az autópályán történt Rakovec falu közelében, a Ternopili járásban.”
Az előzetes információk szerint a sofőr elvesztette uralmát a jármű fölött és az árokba hajtott, ahol a busz felborult. „A buszon 41 zarándok utazott, akik az országos búcsúra tartottak Zarvanicába. Eddig két utast szállítottak kórházba sérülésekkel. A sérültek számának megállapítása folyamatban van” – tette hozzá a rendőrség. A helyszínen rendőrök, mentők és katasztrófavédők dolgoznak.
A baleset sérültjeinek száma 11:00 órára 19 főre nőtt. „Öt sérültet kórházba szállítottunk, a többieket a lakóhelyükön látják el. A sérültek többségének törése van, elsősorban bordák, végtagok. Az állapotuk közepesen súlyos” – mondta el Bohdan Kulikovszkij, a terebovljai kórház orvosigazgatója. Az utasok között egy gyerek is volt. „Ő egy 2011-ben született lány, akit Ternopilba irányítottunk át” – tette hozzá.

Kerbela mintegy száz kilométerre délre található Bagdadtól, a síita muszlimok egyik legfontosabb zarándokhelye. Sokan közülük most kelnek útra, hogy meglátogassanak különböző kegyhelyeket a következő szombaton tartandó arbain előtt. Az ünnep a Mohamed próféta unokája, az iraki kerbelai csatában elesett Husszein imám halála utáni negyvennapos gyászidőszakot zárja le.
Az arbain a világ legjelentősebb vallási eseményeinek egyike: rendkívüli biztonsági óvintézkedések mellett rendezik, miután a síitákat hitetlennek tartó Iszlám Állam dzsihadistái számtalanszor követtek már el merényletet hasonló alkalmakkor.
Husszein mártírhalálával alakult ki a síiták vallási mozgalma. Husszein halála volt az iszlám történetének első, klasszikus értelemben vett mártírhalála.
Az imám halála a síiták legszentebb gyásznapja, a szunniták számára ez egy nem kötelező – de Mohamed próféta által javasolt – böjti nap.
A síiták felekezetenként másképp emlékeznek meg a szomorú eseményről. Egyes közösségek tagjai önmarcangolással (saját és társaik testének megkorbácsolása, fejük felhasítása), más síiták pedig a mellkasukat ütlegelik, dobolnak, vagy épp saját kardjukat magasba lendítve kiabálják Husszein nevét.

Legkevesebb nyolcan meghaltak Kasmír indiai részén, a Himalája egy zarándoktáborában egy viharban.
Egy felhőszakadás okozott villámárvizet pénteken egy népszerű hindu szentélyhez közeli táborban – közölte a hatóság. A nyolc halotton kívül sokan eltűntek. Néhány sérültet kórházba szállítottak.
Minden évben hindu zarándokok százezrei mennek fel a Himalája hágóin, hogy meglátogassák a 3900 méteres magasságban lévő Amaranth-szentélyt, melyet Sivának, a pusztítás istennőjének szenteltek. Az elmúlt két évben a koronavírus-világjárvány miatt elmaradt a zarándoklat a kegyhelyre.
A zarándokok táborában a hatóság adatai szerint legalább tízezer ember tartózkodott, amikor a heves eső pénteken lezúdult. A hatóság nagyszabású keresési és mentési műveletet indított.

„Július 28-án hajnali 2 óra 34 perckor érkezett bejelentés, miszerint a Kijev–Csap autópályán a rivnei járási Szinyiv falu közelében baleset történt, egy Mercedes-Benz Sprinter teherautó és a Lemberg–Kijev különjárat autóbusza ütközött” – olvasható a közleményben.
A baleset helyszínére kiérkező mentők egy, az oldalára borult teherautót találtak. A mentők tűz kialakulásának elkerülése érdekében leválasztották az akkumulátor pólusait. A balesetben csak a teherautó sofőrje sérült meg. A közúti baleset körülményeit a rendőrség vizsgálja.

Feldühödött helyi lakosok nem engedték a haszid zarándokokat Nachman rabbi sírjához péntekre virradóra Umanyban, a szemben álló felek között dulakodás is kialakult – adta hírül az Ukrajinszka Pravda hírportál.
A kiadvány Szerhij Alekszejevnek, az Umanyi Városi Tanács Szvoboda párti képviselőjének Facebook-bejegyzésére hivatkozva azt írta, hogy a konfliktus a helyi lakosok és a zsidó zarándokok között a Liszenko utcai zsinagóga mellett történt. A lakosok kihívták a rendőrséget, és követelték, hogy kergessék el a haszidokat. A rendőrök ezt megtagadták, kijelentve, hogy nem tilthatják meg a zsidóknak Tzadik Nachman sírjának felkeresését.
A rendőrök igyekeztek megakadályozni a haszidok és helyiek összecsapását. Ennek ellenére kisebb dulakodás alakult ki a felek között. A rendőrség egyelőre nem kommentálta a történteket.
