Не так часто програмні помилки спричиняють проблеми зі здоров’ям, але в Сполучених Штатах це щойно сталося: щонайменше 224 людини з діабетом повідомили про „травми” через серйозну помилку в додатку для управління інсуліновою помпою, згідно з даними Управління з контролю за продуктами і ліками США (Food and Drug Administration, FDA).
Проблема була пов’язана з iPhone-версією програми t:connect від Tandem Diabetes Care, яка керує інсуліновою помпою t:slim X2. Версія 2.7 вилітала і перезавантажувалася знову і знову, що перевантажувало Bluetooth-зв’язок між телефоном і пристроєм – і батарея інсулінової помпи розряджалася дуже швидко.
Пристрій повідомляє користувача про розряджання, але, тільки-но пристрій вимикається, доставка інсуліну припиняється – це може призвести до дуже значного підвищення рівня цукру в крові. FDA відкликало проблемне програмне забезпечення версії 2.7 і класифікувало проблему як найсерйознішу з усіх можливих, які можуть становити смертельну загрозу, повідомляє The Verge.
Фізичного відкликання пристроїв не проводилося, а тим часом було випущено програмне забезпечення версії 2.7.1 для вирішення цієї проблеми. Близько тонни кокаїну походженням із Латинської Америки було вилучено на вітрильнику, що плавав в Атлантичному океані, – повідомили у четвер португальські військово-морські сили та кримінальна поліція.
Артур Ваз, директор відділу з боротьби з наркотиками португальського департаменту кримінальних розслідувань, повідомив, що вітрильник був зупинений у середу ввечері, приблизно за 370 кілометрів від португальського узбережжя.
Поліція обшукала яхту і затримала єдину людину на борту, п’ятдесятитрьохрічного іноземця, – повідомляє португальський флот. Яхту, що плавала під польським прапором та яка перетнула Атлантику, доставили на військово-морську базу на південь від Лісабона.

Вибуховий пристрій вчасно помітили співробітники міжнародного аеропорту в штаті Пенсільванія, чоловіка арештували.
40-річного Марка Маффлі звинувачують у тому, що він заховав вибухівку у валізі в міжнародному аеропорту Ліхай-Веллі в Пенсільванії. Він відправляв валізу в Орландо літаком бюджетної авіакомпанії Allegiant Air, але під час перевірки співробітники служби безпеки аеропорту помітили в багажі підозрілу конструкцію.
Співробітники аеропорту про знахідку повідомили ФБР і викликали вибухотехніків для дослідження предмету, знайденого у валізі. Як повідомляє BBC, експерт встановив, що 7,5-сантиметрова конструкція, захована в підкладці валізи на колесах, містить вибухівку та запал.
Вибухівка складалася з гранульованого матеріалу, який використовується у феєрверках, і порошку для спалахів, суміш яких може спалахнути через тепло і тертя, тому конструкція становила реальну небезпеку для пасажирів літака Allegiant. У валізі був і бутан, запальний пристрій, автоматичний вимикач і невеликий ручний дриль.
Ім’я чоловіка оголосили через систему оповіщення аеропорту. Відтак, камери аеропорту зафіксували, як Маффлі поспішає на вихід. Того ж дня агенти ФБР затримали підозрюваного вдома.

Село Квея (Queja) розташоване в центральній частині Гватемали. Ураган вирував у країні Центральної Америки у вівторок, а в середу гроза призвела до зсуву ґрунту.
Одна з місцевих мешканок втратила через природне лихо 22 родичів. Сподівань на виявлення тих, хто вижив, немає. Рятувальна операція розпочалася лише через день після трагедії. Село знаходиться за 22 км від найближчого міста Сан-Крістобаль Верапрас, але дорога до населеного пункту стала непрохідною для автомобілів, і рятувальні бригади пішки змогли дістатися до місця катастрофи надто пізно.
У рятувальній операції беруть участь близько сотні людей: 55 солдатів, 25 пожежників та 15 поліцейських. Температура повітря опустилася майже до нуля, що дуже ускладнює риття землі. Рятувальники не можуть навіть оцінити товщину шару ґрунту. Незважаючи на напружену роботу, до суботи вони виявили та підняли на поверхню тіла лише трьох загиблих.
