 Хіманта Бішва Шарма заявила, що в рамках широкомасштабного рейду поліція заарештувала 1039 осіб, додавши, що, як очікується, ця кількість зросте.
 Це друга хвиля арештів у цій частині країни. У лютому в штаті було заарештовано 4 тисячі осіб, зокрема батьків одружених дітей та державних чиновників, які дозволяли укладати шлюби між неповнолітніми.
 Голова штату Хіманта Бішва Шарма раніше заявила, що метою боротьби є повна ліквідація дитячих шлюбів в Ассамі до 2026 року.
 Законний вік для вступу в шлюб в Індії становить 18 років, але мільйони дітей, особливо в бідніших регіонах, змушують одружуватися набагато раніше. У багатьох сім’ях одружують або видають заміж своїх дітей в надії на більшу фінансову безпеку.
 Жертвами дитячих шлюбів зазвичай стають дівчата, які після заміжжя більше не мають можливості ходити до школи. Крім того, ранні шлюби зазвичай супроводжуються ранніми вагітностями, які часто пов’язані з фізичними та психологічними проблемами.
 У 2017 році Верховний суд ухвалив рішення, відповідно до якого подружнє життя з дружиною віком до 18 років вважається зґвалтуванням.
 За даними ООН, в Індії проживає понад 220 мільйонів одружених неповнолітніх.
