Федеральне бюро розслідувань США (ФБР) затримало у Флориді безхатька, який планував підкласти саморобну бомбу й підірвати будівлю Нью-Йоркської фондової біржі, щоб «поставити штат на нові основи».
Розслідування у справі щодо Харуна Абдул-Маліка Єнера, котрий народився в Сполучених Штатах у 1994 році, тривало десять місяців. Чоловік був затриманий агентами ФБР під прикриттям, яким він розкрив свої плани й доручив знайти вибухівку для виготовлення саморобної бомби.
Згідно з обвинуваченням, зловмисник розповів агентам, які видавали себе за членів ополчення, що хоче приєднатися до «антиурядового ополчення». Раніше, у 2015 році, він розглядав можливість долучитися до угруповання «Ісламська держава», але врешті відмовився від цього наміру.
Місцем запланованої атаки Харун обрав Нью-Йоркську фондову біржу, оскільки вважав, що його ідею підтримає багато людей. «Вони скажуть, що ідея цього хлопця має сенс, адже на фондовому ринку нас грабують», – наводяться в обвинуваченні слова підозрюваного.
Під час обшуку на складі правоохоронці виявили креслення та електронне обладнання, необхідне для виготовлення саморобної бомби. Історія пошуку в інтернеті, обмін повідомленнями та листами показали, що Харун збирав інформацію, потрібну для створення вибухового пристрою, з 2017 року.
