Через сильні снігопади в Естонії понад 17 тисяч домогосподарств залишилися без електрики на вихідних, повідомила місцева компанія – постачальник електроенергії.
Найбільше постраждав регіон Тарту, другого за величиною міста країни. Сніг і мороз також спричинили перебої в автомобільному та залізничному русі.
Снігоприбиральна техніка працювала без зупину, рятувальні служби прийняли понад 300 викликів, здебільшого через повалені дерева, які через снігову масу впали на дороги чи лінії електропередач.
Крім того, сталися десятки ДТП і пожежі, пов’язані з опаленням. Хуртовини почалися в п’ятницю вранці і тривали всі вихідні, і, за прогнозами метеорологів, ймовірно, стихнуть лише із середини тижня.
Сильні снігові бурі вирують у кількох європейських країнах, зокрема у Франції, де вже зафіксовано кілька смертей.
Величезна кількість снігу також спричиняє збої у Великій Британії. Дорожній і повітряний рух були майже паралізовані. Аеропорт Манчестера повністю закритий. Сніг створює проблеми також у кількох аеропортах Західної Європи, є затримки на летовищах у Німеччині та Нідерландах.

Смертельна хуртовина утворилася пізно ввечері в п’ятницю і обрушилася на захід Нью-Йорка в різдвяні вихідні, завершившись арктичним морозом та фронтом зимового шторму, що рушив на південь до мексиканського кордону. Він поширився на більшість Сполучених Штатів протягом кількох днів.
За даними NBC News, щонайменше 30 людей загинули внаслідок інцидентів, пов’язаних із погодою в США, з кінця минулого тижня, тоді як CNN оцінив загальну кількість загиблих у 26 осіб.
Район Великого Буффало на березі озера Ері неподалік канадського кордону постраждав найбільше.
Сильний холод у поєднанні з вітром і сильним снігом стали результатом вологи від холодного повітря, що дме над теплими водами озера, викликали шторм, який губернатор Кеті Хоукул назвала найсильнішим зимовим штормом, що обрушився на Буффало, друге за величиною місто штату Нью-Йорк, з часів снігової бурі 1977 року.
Офіційні особи заявили, що кількість загиблих внаслідок урагану в Буффало та інших місцях округу Ері в неділю зросла до 13 осіб, і очікується, що вона зросте, оскільки у сніговому заметі було виявлено нові тіла.

Електрична підстанція була відключена і закрита 5-ти метровою кучугурою, а комунальні служби виявили, що весь об’єкт замерз усередині.
У той час як офіційне попередження про хуртовини в районі Великого Буффало було знято в неділю, офіційні особи попередили, що в деяких районах зберігаються хуртовини, і у вівторок прогнозується більше снігу.

Губернаторка штату Нью-Йорк оголосила надзвичайний стан через снігову бурю, котра в четвер накрила Баффало, друге за величиною місто штату після Нью-Йорка. До неділі тут може випасти більше метра снігу, повідомляє CBS News.
Снігопад досяг Баффало в четвер увечері й до ранку п’ятниці супроводжувався штормовим вітром та громом. Кількість снігу зростала, спочатку випало 7 сантиметрів за годину, а потім 12. За розрахунками місцевої метеорологічної служби, до неділі висота снігу в Баффало може перевищити один метр.
Губернаторка Кеті Хочул оголосила надзвичайний стан в 11 округах штату, на деяких автомагістралях призупинено рух вантажівок.
У п’ятницю в школах Баффало та в усьому окрузі скасували навчання. Залізничні станції закрилися в четвер і не працювали й наступного дня. Було скасовано також кілька авіарейсів.
