Каракалпаки збережуть право вийти зі складу країни за допомогою референдуму.
Парламент Узбекистану на тлі масштабних протестів у Нукусі ухвалив рішення зберегти автономію Каракалпакстану, повідомляє DW із посиланням на пресслужбу законодавчого органу.
«Президент Республіки Узбекистан Ш. Мірзійоєв на зустрічі з депутатами Жокарги Кенеса (Верховної Ради – ред.) та представниками громадськості Каракалпакстану наголосив на необхідності врахувати всі пропозиції. Зазначено, що статті 70-72, 74 та 75 Конституції залишаться без змін, а чинні норми збережуться», – йдеться у повідомленні.
Масові протести у столиці автономного Каракалпакстану, місті Нукус, спалахнули 1 липня. Тисячі людей вийшли на вулиці проти проєкту зміни Конституції Узбекистану, який передбачає ліквідацію автономії. У цьому випадку найбільший регіон країни втратив би право на вихід зі складу Узбекистану за підсумками загального референдуму.
Наступного дня протестувальники намагалися штурмувати органи держуправління в Нукусі, до бунтівного регіону прибув президент Мірзійоєв і пообіцяв не змінювати статті Конституції щодо автономної республіки, за винятком ст. 73 про незмінність її кордонів.
У сутичках протестувальників та силовиків загинули 18 людей, ще 243 отримали поранення і травми, 94 постраждалих ушпиталені, повідомив представник Генеральної прокуратури Узбекистану Аброр Маматов. Силовики затримали 516 протестувальників, в автономії запроваджено режим НП.
14 грудня 1990 року парламент автономної республіки Каракалпакстан у складі Узбецької РСР ухвалив декларацію про державний суверенітет, що передбачала повну незалежність держави.
1993 року уряд Узбекистану підписав із Каракалпакстаном міждержавний договір строком на 20 років про входження Республіки Каракалпакстан до складу Узбекистану. В угоді обумовлено право виходу автономної республіки з Узбекистану шляхом референдуму.
2013 року термін угоди сплив, але її умови не були виконані. За незалежність Каракалпакстану борються члени руху «Алга, Каракалпакстан», багато з них перебувають у вигнанні за кордоном.
