Під час одного з найжорстокішого за останні роки нападу на християн ніхто не загинув. Віруючим, які проживають у християнському кварталі міста, вдалося укритися в безпечних місцях ще до початку безладів. Через те, що сталося, міська адміністрація розпорядилася закрити школи та магазини, а громадський транспорт працює за скороченим графіком.
Уряд направив на місце події додаткові сили поліції та воєнізовані формування для відновлення порядку.
Подію засудили кілька західних країн і організацій. Речник Державного департаменту США Ведант Пател закликав владу Пакистану провести всебічне розслідування інциденту.
Внаслідок атаки згоріла церква, ще чотирьом культовим спорудам та двом десяткам будинків завдано значних пошкоджень. За попередніми даними, заворушення спалахнули після того, як мусульманські релігійні лідери повідомили про двох християн, які нібито осквернили Коран.
