Весь Новий Орлеан залишився без електроенергії через ураган Іда. Про це повідомляє компанія, яка контролює електромережу американського міста. Компанія називає ураган причиною „катастрофічних збитків” і вчора попередила, що люди можуть залишатися без електроенергії до трьох тижнів.
У штаті Луїзіана майже мільйон домогосподарств зараз без електрики, повідомляє сайт PowerOutage.us, який відстежує відключення електроенергії в США.
Кадри на американському телебаченні показують, що з будинків було знесено багато дахів, вулиці затоплені, а дерева вирвані з коренем.
Сильний вітер навіть протягом кількох годин змінював потік річки Міссісіпі. Також була зафіксована перша смерть. Муніципалітет Луїзіани повідомляє, що на людину впало дерево.
Місто Жан Лафіт, приблизно за 50 кілометрів на південь від Нового Орлеана, було повністю зруйноване ураганом, сказав мер Тім Келнер CNN. Рятувальники не можуть зв’язатися з сотнями мешканців, тому що великий міст був зруйнований.
„У нас раніше були повені, бурі. Але ніколи в житті я не бачив стільки води. Вона вразила нас найгіршим чином. Буря була настільки сильною, що повністю зруйнувала це місце”, – сказав він.
Більшість мешканців були евакуйовані, але приблизно 300 людей все ще перебувають у пастці у своїх будинках. „Ми також не можемо забрати людей човнами, тому що вода занадто бурхлива. Це було б небезпечно для людей у човні”.

Іда вчора ввечері вийшла на берег Луїзіани як один з найсильніших ураганів, що коли – небудь реєструвалися на материку США, з вітром близько 230 кілометрів на годину. Національний центр ураганів (NHC) класифікував Іду як ураган 4 категорії з 5 категорій.
Ураган потрапив на сушу рівно за шістнадцять років після урагану Катріна, майже в тому ж місці. Іда була навіть дещо потужнішою за ураган, який забрав життя понад 1800 людей і завдав збитків на суму понад 170 мільярдів доларів.
Через кілька годин на суші сила Іди зменшилася до урагану 3 категорії. Зараз ураган належить до урагану 2 категорії зі швидкістю вітру до 175 кілометрів на годину. За словами губернатора Луїзіани Едвардса, це не означало, що небезпека минула.
